Just curious – there are so many threads that get the inevitable C&H response. So – who has done them and how much?
For me – in my 20s and early 30s I smoked a bit of weed / skunk (entirely because some of my mates smoked so I was regularly offered stuff – I never acquired any personally). I did a mushroom bomb once at a festival but that's it – nothing any stronger like coke or any kind of pill.
At 58 I guess that makes me pretty boring - so where are you all at (I appreciate some people may want to fully disclose 😂 )
As for hookers - never (the thought of it is revolting).
Same as DickBarton. Have consumed my share of alcohol though.
Did some E in my 30s.. was very anti-drugs til I split up with the wife, then went out with some people and needed to have a good time... Must say it was ****ing brilliant. Dancing to house and techno and big beat, which was huge at the time... ohh yeah and then the rush off a good pill. Wow.
But like booze, think more of the after-effects these days than the joy. The comedown from pills is pretty grim.
Was once in a room where people were snorting coke and I was never tempted by that - looked disgusting to me.
Never really needed to pay for sex. Not a boast, just true! 😀
I plead the 5th amendment.
Not ever been interested in ‘drugs’ or cigs, have done alcohol in the past , currently have a caffeine habit in the morning
edit : can’t forget a statin every night too. Rock & Roll
Boring boring boring. Never smoked, never done drugs, stopped booze and caffeine when I got long covid. All that's left is a serious cake habit but I can handle it... Can't I?
Am 46. Spent my early 20s smoking weed most evenings and taking E most weekends. I wish i had done a bit less of both, but overall I genuinely think MDMA had a positive and lasting effect on my life. By my 30s i was maybe taking one pill a year, and had long since given up weed.
Tried coke a few times - didn't really like it, and i hate the atmosphere at a party where everyone's on the nosebag. Did speed about twice - not worth the comedown! Acid and mushies a couple of times, but was a bit scared. Kind of wish i had done more mushrooms, but i think that's all in the past now.
Going to sex workers on the other hand - totally beyond my comprehension. Find the whole idea massively off-putting.
Drank far too much from 17-25, somewhat too much from 25-35, and since 40 I've barely touched it. Partly due to long COVID, mind.
Never smoked fags tho, that's something!
Given that its between 10 and 30% of the population ( depending on reseach methods) an awful lot of us. Are you including alcohol and coffee? 😀
Plenty of booze in the past, though very little these days. I've never smoked or taken drugs. I had asthma from late childhood into my teens, which put me off smoking and when it cleared up I joined the army where drugs were obviously not tolerated and random tests were a regular thing.
I am however increasingly curious in my advancing years, about the potential benefits of certain types of fungi. I haven't done anything about it. Yet. I'm aware of the legal pitfalls were I to follow through on that curiosity.
Edit to say I do have a bit of a caffeine habit, fuelled by a nice espresso machine and posh grinder always within easy reach.
Twenties, a bit of weed, a few pills, and speed once, bloody awful stuff!
Might have fallen off the wagon a little bit this past weekend. I'm blaming booze for lowering my inhibitions... 6weeks off booze then got carried away with a free bar...
I feel several months abstinence is now required and definitely not catching up all in one afternoon.
Having said that I had properly fun night out, it's been many many years (decades). Apologies if anyone was offended by my dad dancing at 1am on canal street...
Edit, as for hookers, nah, I'd be too scared and wouldn't know what to do 🙂
Citalopram, tamsulosin, finasteride.
It's wild being 56
More seriously, dabbled briefly with cigs in my teens and drank a bit too much in late teens. Never felt the urge to try anything else.
Just in time spotted the hookers reference in the OP so I'll be clear I've not dabbled there either, nor been to "gentlemens club" or seen a stripper. Just to be clear.
Just curious – there are so many threads that get the inevitable C&H response. So – who has done them and how much?

Nice try Palantir data scraping bot!
Weed - on and off all my life. Binge then drought.
Es - occasionally. E is great but the older you get the longer to recover. Coke very occasionally. Coke makes me even more of an obsessive dickhead in the wrong setting. Killed one of my friends. Mushrooms / Acid when younger. Had a bit of a whizz thing going for a while in my 20s
Always held down a professional job, never under the influence at work and always gave myself plenty of time to straighten out before I went to work, never missed a day of work because of it ( stopped the whizz before I started my training)
Never any opiates or other downers - I don't see the point but then I have a good life not a shit one
One of the finest things in life is a walk or cycle with half an E in you ( traffic free and easy navigation) Everything is so lovely 🙂 Look at the beautiful trees!
I have always made sure I ate properly and did not loose too much sleep
never done any.
beer on the other hand has always been a part of my life. and always will be.
This is very interesting so far – far less drug taking than I thought there would be.
I think a lot of folk who do take drugs in any form will not want to say publicly. As I am no longer working I don't really care but if I had been busted or even suspected when working I would have lost both my job and my professional registration
Enjoyed absolutely everything as it has a time/place/set/setting, including the "bad" drugs.
Can't do much these days due to my spms but I still enjoy weed (NHS supplied these days, I no longer grow) and the occasional mushroom brew (its mushroom season soon so mum's gonna pick me some)
I’ve had a go at most things, never crack or heroin, but just about everything else.
much like alcohol I found that the price wasn’t worth paying - drugs can be good fun, but a cost comes later. I never had anything more than a couple of times, and haven’t even had alcohol for years. Coke is the worst, it turns everyone into a game-show host.
The only thing I’d recommend to anyone who has never tried is mushrooms, if you
a) have a reliable source, and
b) have someone with you who has done them before.
They really are eye-opening.
The only other thing I really enjoyed is amyl nitrate. It was so much fun I immediately resolved never to do it again.
I think perhaps I got addicted to ciggies so quickly and so firmly it made me realise how easily it can happen. I never want that with anything else.
Boring x 10. Never have and never will and dont touch a drop of alcohol either but cake, well that's another question!
There is some interesting work being done with e and mushrooms for mental illness. Very difficult to do in the UK because of our laws but some of it looks very promising. Es in marriage guidance as well. E releases oxytocin - the love drug which is why raves are mainly such happy huggy places
Coke is fuelling violence in our towns and cities - particularity mixed with alcohol it can be very nasty. The UK is one of the biggest users of coke
i reckon more people have been fubar with booze than any other drugs.
proper family destroyer.
Weed, at uni but never much of a fan, plenty of mdma on a recreational basis on a special occasion, then developed a pretty much daily coke habit for 2 years that left me absolutely broken...
Do I win the thread..?
Having hit absolute rock bottom I replaced my horrible addiction to drugs with an addiction to cycling. Lost close to a 1/4 of my body weight, went from a horrible unfit mess to a 4.5w/kg ftp cycling weapon in 6 months, and ended up winning local tt races. Literally the same addictive personality that caused my drug abuse was exactly the same thing that meant i spent hrs on the bike
Turning that around was the thing I'm most proud of in my life as it was xxxxing hard
Ironically, whilst a coke addiction is bloody expensive, my cycling addiction hasn't been much cheaper!
Very difficult to do in the UK because of our laws but some of it looks very promising.
They grow almost everywhere in the UK at this time of year. If you know what to look for and where to look they're the easiest drugs to get hold of. I've tried the microdosing thing, it really seemed to work. Completely harmless so even if it doesn't it's no problem. (Tip: find a sheep field which has not been treated or ploughed at any time in its recent past.)
I think a lot of folk who do take drugs in any form will not want to say publicly.
This. I'd love to be honest but we live in a country which has some of the most backward looking and arcane drugs laws and popular attitudes which wouldn't go amiss in Victorian times (which is ironic because the victorians were massive users, they just called it 'medicine').
All I will say is that drugs are pretty much everywhere. Go to any pub or bar in the UK and you can guarantee the toilets are being used to take coke. Walk down the street and within minutes you'll smell weed from someone smoking it openly or from a car driving past. Go to any nightclub or music venue and there'll be people on Es or MDMA. Talk to any teenager and they'll know a mate who's regularly taking ket. Honestly the amount of drug taking I see everywhere I go you'd think it was legal.
with regard to mushrooms and mental health - I mean proper research.
Coke is fuelling violence in our towns and cities - particularity mixed with alcohol it can be very nasty.
No one takes coke and doesn't drink. In fact most coke users take it so they can drink more and stay out later. I'm pretty sure the main driver of increased coke use is late licensing hours and stronger beer. That and it's a lot cheaper than it used to be.
with regard to mushrooms and mental health - I mean proper research.
Yes I know but there's also plenty of anecdotal evidence of its efficacy. Same goes for LSD and MDMA.
Other than alcohol, I've never been interested in any drugs. Even as a young motorbiker I was getting so much high from fast riding, the idea of taking anything to interfere with that was just wrong.
Then I had the misfortune to flatshare with a heroin addict who offered "massages" to strangers in return for cash to feed her habit. Seeing her descent into hell was enough to put me off ever thinking about it.
My alcohol consumption peaked in my early twenties and has been gradually declining for the past 40 years. Improvements in LA beers has curtailed it almost completely, though I do have a soft spot for proper dark beers and will occasionally scratch that itch.
I've done lots of stuff. Nothing for a good 15 years or so though. I'm 49 now and don't want anything other than a nice pint or a decent cocktail sometimes.
Started smoking cigarettes at age 11 and weed by 13, then hit the class A's at probably 16. Did quite a bit of stuff for a few years, then a little bit every now and then until 30 something, was always when I met up with a certain mate. Ended up having to cut him out, so haven't seen him for a long while now but haven't done any drugs either.
Stopped smoking when my wife got pregnant with my first kid, when I was 32.
Been with my wife since I was 17 so no hookers!
yes, lots, pretty much from when I left home at 19 until i had my first kid at 35 and then I just stopped (had tapered off a lot by then tbf)
never smoked cigarettes but lots of weed
never done opiates but tried pretty much everything else
still drink, but only Friday/ Saturday nights after the kids are in bed, these days sharing a nice red with my wife is plenty enough for me!
had some absolutely brilliant times, the best most memorable moments and experiences
I wouldn't change anything but im aware that some of my mates , have not fared so well, Im not sure whether they were always messed up and that's why drugs attracted them or whether the drugs made things worse. and my family who are all big drinkers have a plethora of health issues but would never think to stop
Oh man my 20s were an absolute train wreck.
I had a full time 12 hour night shift job while doing days at uni, would regulalrly not sleep for days at a time, or eat for that matter. At one point i was about 8% body fat. If I got my hands on someting then i'd probably take it unti lthere wasnn't any left
Honestly just wish I'd got myself a bike and learned to ride it, but you know, never had any money
“Walk down the street and within minutes you'll smell weed from someone smoking it openly”
Before my mum died I was having a chat with her about drugs, telling her how commonplace they were. I said that you could regularly smell, and she replied that she’d never smelt it. We were walking through an underpass one day and I said ‘there you are, I told you it was around’.
‘Oh that smell’, she said, ‘ that smell is everywhere. I didn’t realise what it was’.
Oh - I've been offered the services of a prostitute when I was involved in making purchasing decisions for an employer. I didn't take up the offer. Been to a few strip bars. One was my "local" for a while, for no other reason than it was convenient for meeting mates. It was in that one that I saw one of the girls I'd known in high school on stage. I was also taken to a live sex show in Brussels on one company night out. It was made pretty clear that you were expected to buy the girls lsome cheap plonk - at extortionate cost - and when not doing so we were escorted out the back door. That was a worrying few minutes.
I had some space cake in Amsterdam and it just made me sit in the corner and do nothing. I want something to get me going. Luckily booze and good music do it for me.
43 and drugs are still a large part of my life.
Weed and speed... speed good until you stop. Never really got on with weed 40 years on i quite fancy some weed these days
This is very interesting so far – far less drug taking than I thought there would be.
Shed load of pissheads though 🤣
For me its more a case of what haven't I taken. And I think it's only MDMA(incredibly)
But everything else. Heroin,Opium,Cocaine,Marijuana is both floral and solid form,Amphetamine,Alcohol, mushrooms(druid level quantities), and pills too numerous to mention and if fact few if any i could actually name.
Except the largactil, never forget that one. Not recommended, especially in dosages of 30 tablets. Jeez things you do in your yoof.
Now. Occasional bit of weed, maybe twice a year, and I hardly drink as it is.
But each to their own. Folk want to smoke weed, or take coke or speed or whatever, then no probs. But if it isnt your bag and you drink, itself a drug and also a poison, then theres no need to be hypocritical(addressed at nobody) and browbeat anyone who does.
Just remember the golden rule. Everything in moderation and you'll get on fine.
None, nothing, not ever... Not even smoked a fag (disgusting things!)...
All that might change soon though, cos at 45 I've just been diagnosed with pretty intense ADHD, and so I'm expecting they'll start trying to turn me into a speed freak any time soon now... 😜
I think @scotroutes has got the messaging confused.... Too much info, fella....! Save it for nextv weeks thread of the week.
I think a lot of folk who do take drugs in any form will not want to say publicly
I honestly DGAF.
Open book. I've nothing to hide, nor do I regret my experiences.
Smoked weed and hash since my school days and it's continued to be a part of my life/who I am.
Got heavily into the party stuff/scene back in the late 90s. Whole weekends lost, but not necessarily wasted. Still get excited about the nights I had some twenty odd years ago. Purposely took on a night job at the time so that I could better finance and fit clubbing into my life. The weekends were long. Usually recovered by Wednesday or Thursday only to repeat the abuse on Friday. Sadly, many of the clubs we used to frequent in London are no longer there. Still reminisce with friends about the good times..... Occasionally dick about with substances given the right environment.
Ain't got much more time for coke. Take the occasional line depending on who is offering, i.e. if I know it's not been cut to shite. Those that do it often enough seemingly lose any self reflection which is a shame because if they saw themselves they'd probably be ashamed. Coke is very person dependent. Some can, many shouldn't. Although, again this depends on the amount/frequency.
Dicked about with other bits and bobs. Ket wasn't all that bad, just make sure you're in the right surroundings before you begin. Crack is too more-ish to even begin thinking about. LSD and other such things are fine, but again, make sure you're in a good place mentally and physically before you begin.
Always smoked weed. Have turned down many potentially lucrative clients due to their drugs policy. What I do in my free time is none of their business as far as I'm concerned.
When freelancing I always ended up in places where it was either accepted or in some cases the norm that weed could be/was smoked.
For the last 15 years of work I would often start my day with a sticky on the way to work. Would easily smoke 2-3g a day whilst in the workshop. First smoke (if not on the way to the workshop) would be with my morning coffee. First beer was usually around 11 o'clock (bear in mind I lived in Bavaria where beer culture and all day drinking was the norm) accompanied by a smoke. Couple of Hoibe (halves) at lunch and then a solid flow of smoke and beer till knock off around 6 or 7pm.
No ride is complete without a mid ride smoke. Preferably at the top of the mountain, enjoying them view. If I'm in the bike park I'll often toke a sticky on each chairlift ride. There's a nice zen flow zone where the riding just flows.
Had many issues with the law regarding my life decisions and have paid a heavy price both socially and financially because of it. I've never reformed.
I will also add that there's hardly a day that goes by where I don't enjoy a beer or glass of wine. I'm no somilier , but I know my Malbec from my Dolcetto.
Was collecting shrooms with a couple of locals (just as well as I'm colour blind AF (prior to any drug use)) in Italy a few the weeks back. I like hallucinogenics.
Every culture throughout the history of the world, throughout every epoch, has had a way of releasing themselves from the mundanity of everyday life... The only ones without access to mind altering drugs was the Eskimos. Instead of imbibing they shut themselves into a sealed off iglo, beat drums loudly and proceeded to slap the **** out of each other to reach a state of euphoria/outer-worldliness.
And now, we've entered a time where prescribed drugs are accepted by society and illegal drugs are frowned upon.
My sister (and many others) takes drugs because she's fat. My cousin takes uppers because she's "depressed". My old man takes drugs for his anxiety...... Yet I'm the black sheep because I take "drugs" from "the street".
I've friends who would put the wine snobs to shame when it comes to the various weed stains and others who have such an intense knowledge of the forest that Ray Meats himself would blush.
I like drugs.
Every culture throughout the history of the world, throughout every epoch, has had a way of releasing themselves from the mundanity of everyday life...
This
Our society its mainly alcohol
Caffeine I kicked to the kerb, I was going at it hard and I wasn't sleeping. Today I have a cup of tea or coffee maybe every third day? Maybe not even that.
Alcohol I need to cut down. It's harder than it sounds.
Tobacco I had a stint with, long story short I said to her "if you don't stop smoking then I'll start," she replied "no you won't" so I said alright then and smoked for about ten years just to prove a point. Yes I am that petty.
Tried weed a handful of times. I don't really get it. I had a mate who was massively into it, "have you got a coke bottle and a toilet roll and some Pink Floyd?" Dude this sounds like effort. A lass I know likes edibles, that scares me, once it's in it's difficult to get it back out.
Beyond that... no? It never really appealed, I was at metal clubs rather than dance clubs. I have been fortunate enough to move in many varied circles over the years but none of my friends were drugs bunnies. Despite it apparently being "everywhere" I've never seen it. A girl I worked with liked her ketamine, she sent me a video of her licking it off a chef's knife like a Dip-Dab.
Despite it apparently being "everywhere" I've never seen it.
I think you tend to end up either in a circle where its commonplace or a circle where it is not
I didn't realise we're counting caffeine and tobacco in the list of drugs..... Just see those as not much different from a can of coke.
I like coffee, but not the shitty stuff that passes for coffee in the majority of UK establishments. Currently back in the UK (need to shower my face every year or so) and can honestly say that 100% of the coffee that I've had so far in the last week I've regretted ordering because it has been shite. Prefer to order a pot of tea so that I'm at least able to decide on the strength of my brew. Very few places seemingly know how to make anything other than a flat white with cinnamon or vanilla or some other such bullshit flavouring.
Do one. Barista my arse.
Tobacco really is the devil's lettuce. It's shite. A short hit that does nothing other than making you smell of fags and leaves you wanting more..... I'll smoke it in combo with grass or hash, but that's simply as a means to an end. Would happily smoke weed without any tobacco, but most of the seed grown today (under intense conditions) simply can't be smoked on its own because it's too strong and the THC content too high. Much rather a mellow, outdoor/balcony grown grass that can be smoked on its own.
Just see those as not much different from a can of coke.
coke the drink is a drug - it contains caffine ( and used to contain cocaine) As is Irn Bru, red bull and loads of other drinks
Our society its mainly alcohol
Our... Extrapolate that to just about every Western influenced society across the globe.
Some places, despite alcohol's dominance, other drugs are more accepted than in the UK.
I'm still shocked when I return to Germany that I'm allowed to openly smoke weed.... Although not in a Biergarten or at the Oktoberfest because there is considered a drug.... I know. Ironic, right. But still, even Germany with it's bet swilling culture has managed to accept that the original devil's lettuce ain't all that detrimental to society and its way of life.
I could look at a recent article I read about the non-effects of the new German drug laws, but as a live long stoner and more importantly three land lady wants me out the pub I'm not going to.
I think you tend to end up either in a circle where its commonplace or a circle where it is not
Weed smokers tend to find each other.
I was at a trade show. mainly furniture makers where we show our stuff and nobody buys anything. and of all there I happen through chit chat with another maker find out he's weed smoker.
No one takes coke and doesn't drink
Maybe true to say usually folks start taking coke for first time when they are drinking,
however Plenty of addicts end up taking coke with no alcohol involved. I'd wager if you blood tested everyone that works in the city of London, a surprisingly high number would have had a pre work line, much in the same way you'd have an expresso.
Cocaine is an evil drug...I won't lie, Initially it makes you feel invincible, a much better, more confident version of yourself. But it'll very quickly erode your soul. If you can take it recreationally once or twice a year good for you, but it's very easy to become addicted to it and it'll fxxxing ruin you if it takes hold.
Find it genuinely quaint that people look at caffeine as a drug.
Still on the PG Tips, though?
"I'm on three bags a day"...... 😵💫
What the Italians think I've no idea..... Five or more espresso a day ain't unusual......
furniture makers.......
......he's weed smoker.
I resemble this comment.
Nice and quiet, closed off environment, where doing something with a passion requires time, patience and concentration. That's not going to happen when you're up against the "clock“.
coke the drink is a drug - it contains caffine ( and used to contain cocaine)
A century ago. They used to call it "Negro's Cocaine."
Tried weed a handful of times. I don't really get it. I had a mate who was massively into it, "have you got a coke bottle and a toilet roll and some Pink Floyd?" Dude this sounds like effort. A lass I know likes edibles, that scares me,
Toilet roll boy read not a proper stoner.
No self respecting stoner is going to go through that much effort. 😉
Edibles are the most efficient way of consuming. Start small. Yeah it'll be a bit of a learning curve, but if you know you know.
Just re-read some of my posts and realised that there's many a Schreibfehler.....
Im going to vacate this park bench and walk home.
Bon nuit
Same reasoning why cannabis was made illegal - J Edgar Hoover was a total racist and cannabis was mainly used by black Americans.
Queen Victoria used Cannabis and Morphine, In WW1 you could buy comfort kits to send to the front - they included injectable morphine.
Sherlock Holmes enjoyed his cocaine
Drugs were not illegal in the UK until the 60s
At the very least as a start to full legalisation, out of all the drugs weed should be the first so you could buy it with full knowledge of the strain, THC/CBD content , Terpenes etc and be guaranteed of its provenance.
My aunt send these over from Canada along with some of the bud she grows in her garden, nice stuff but not a patch on my own particular strain I bred and grew for 14 years.
My NHS supplied legal THC/CBD spray for my SPMS muscle spasms, 2.7mg of THC/2.7mg CBD in each spray so generally take 4 sprays under my tongue 4 times daily, sometimes I take 10+ at night if I can’t get my legs to work/need to silence my leg muscles.
Here’s one of my buds from one of my old gardens (hydroponic), you can see my fingertips holding it at the bottom for scale
Couple of gardens
And finally a Kg of rum/raisin with coconut dressing cannabis truffles I made 7 years ago for a mate who was dying horribly from cancer, some may remember I used to work as a chocolatier up here in Galloway so I rather often made full use of my combination of skills.
Made with 100 g of ground top quality bud, THC/CBD and other cannabinoids extracted under heat and pressure using an oil based extraction method for 3hrs then cooled and mixed with emulsifying agent, then added to my rum/raisin ganache and pipped into 76% dark chocolate shells, rolled in Madagascan milk chocolate and coated with toasted coconut.
My mate loved them, he did say something along the words of , “You made me wait till I had cancer before you made these., you bastard” 😂
Each truffle put him in the sort of place everyone in that condition deserves
Coke is the worst, it turns everyone into a game-show host.
I would contend that Meth amphetamine is worse.
Find it genuinely quaint that people look at caffeine as a drug.
Still on the PG Tips, though?
It is. You'll feel it when you come off it. Waking up and "gasping for a brew" is fending off last night's caffeine hangover. Caffeine doesn't give you energy, it just steals it from the future.
Perhaps have a crack (no pun intended) at quitting a few things yourself, then see how quaint you still think it is before you sneer at others? Reckon you can bin the weed until Christmas? Given your posting history I'd bet good money that you can't / won't, and weed is 'quaint' as far as drugs go. Pick a charity, prove me wrong and I'll throw in a handful. Could you quit coffee? I did, it was ****ing brutal.
So off you go, go pick a poison of choice, bin it off and report back to us in early 2026. Or alternatively, stop being a shit towards folk for being slightly less of an addict than you are. Nobody is a lifelong anything, that's a lame excuse to eat pies.
Do what you want of course, but please knock it off with the snarky attacks. You brag about taking horse tranquilisers "only" occasionally and maybe doing the odd line or two here and there like this is medal-worthy, yet see fit to pass comment on people having a cup of tea? Come on, this is out of order.
Sorry @Cougar.... I apologise. Didn't mean to come across as belittling nor to cause offence. I certainly did not want to appear snarky... I know I'm a prick at the best of times, but snarky isn't really my style.
Obviously caffeine is a drug just like any other and it hits different people in different ways. Personally I've never had a problem nodding off after a late night espresso. Friends of mine are wired for hours after a cappuccino. Everyone is different.
As it stands I've currently zero intention of going cold turkey for the next days and weeks, let alone till Christmas/2026..... Visiting family in the UK and I need all the help (distraction ?) I can get...!
Have dropped everything , both out of necessity (lack of sources or enforced) or voluntarily, and been "clean" with regards to non-prescribed drugs many times in the last 10-15 years... Would often drop everything for a month or so around February just to prove to myself that I'm not an addict and give myself a reset. In 2017/8 I had to prove to the German authorities that I was an upright, model citizen and even have the test results over a period of 18 month period to confirm I was such. Can't say that I felt any better for it, mind. I drank more to compensate for it and gained a few kg that took some effort to lose.
Pies..... Had one on Saturday. First one in years. One of the few British delicacies that I miss.... That and a proper beer.
Define drugs. Alcohol is a drug. Caffeine is a drug. Prescription painkillers are drugs. Endorphins are drugs (that's what your body secretes when you exercise and gives you "runner's high") so athletes are basically drug addicts.
So, yeah, I've taken lots of drugs.
Reckon you can bin the weed until Christmas?
I'm sure he could if he wanted to. Weed is not addictive. there is no withdrawal
Coke is the worst, it turns everyone into a game-show host.
I would contend that Meth amphetamine is worse.
This thread has provided more (if any were needed) evidence of the middle aged demographic of STW. No nitrous oxide, spice zombies, fentanyl, meth freaks at all, very disappointed - must try harder party people.
Love the idea that mundanely smoking weed every day is an escape from mundanity.
This is very interesting so far – far less drug taking than I thought there would be.
Most of us have jobs wed like to not be impacted by our reckless youth. Speaking on behalf of a friend.
must try harder party people
I can barely be bothered with a naff night's sleep from a single can of beer. Dafuq do I want to "party" for? I'd rather be out fell running on a Sunday morning, not lying in a dark room questioning my life choices yet again.
I have a natural resistance to morphine that means it has zero affect on me so opiodes would be a waste of cash.
I was just bored with my experiences of canabis.
Coke and speed i have no interest in as i'm a bit of a duracell bunny at the best of times. I need calming down not fuelled
MDMA i have enjoyed every time (not that often) but my god i do not enjoy a come down.
Alcohol i don't enjoy the loss of control and again... Hangovers terrify me. I am pretty capable of just having a nnice drink and chopping back to alcohol free.
Caffeine probably over do if i don't have a coffeee in the morning i am pretty grumpy but after that i can drink loads or none with no real thought.
Alcohol for me is an age thing, I love a few beers but if I over do it, I literaly feel like death the entire next day coupled with really bad anxiety. It's horrendous.
I drink very much in moderation these days because of that.
Alcohol in my teens, but didn't enjoy the hangovers. Never smoked, tried a cig when I was 10 (they still had vending machines then). Vile!
Never taken/smoked anything; even prescription medication is a last resort
Still do a beer, coffee, chocolate, etc.
I drink very little now - which means I am a cheap date with no tolerance. I made a resolution not to have alcohol in the house nor drink alone. the one I will never stop tho is the " well deserved beer" - you know the one after a long hot cycle ride etc
This is very interesting so far – far less drug taking than I thought there would be.
Going off my own friends, I just take it as a given that everyone over 50 spent the entire of the 90’s absolutely ripped to the tits on industrial quantities of weapons grade MDMA
But then the old adage does apply…. if you can remember the 90’s then you weren’t there (man) 😃
At the very least as a start to full legalisation, out of all the drugs weed should be the first
I think I would have agreed with this, but someone who works in mental health was telling me the other day that the vast majority of people presenting with drug-related psychosis have been smoking weed.
Now I know it's also the most-commonly used illegal drug, but it still gave me pause for thought.
Not a big fan of it myself, but I was an enthusiastic enjoyer of clubbing and the things that went with it throughout the 90s, 00s and some of the 10s.
Had a long break and just once or twice a year now.
Started smoking cigarettes in school, by m yearly twenties wanted to stop badly but never could, took until vaping was a thing before i could give up. Stopped smoking something like 13 years now, still over 20 years of smoking 🙁
And school time led to stupid drinks, smoking solid before weed became more common place, bit of speed and lsd.
never had a problem with speed or LSD, haven't touched LSD in 25 years probably, and speed probably in 15.
When Weed became more of a thing than solid, i would have been around 23, it started to make a serious mess of me, Paranoia, argumentative and aggressive, i also couldn't say no to it, it took me some months after stopping before i felt normal again. i fear i could've been one of negative story's behind weed.. I also have a few people in my circles that i know weed has done some really bad things too, a school mate who still smokes, but isn't quite right and i don't think he knows it, and my mates little brother who it definitely led him to his death, mental health issues are other dependencies. So i still stand by the fact that its not for everyone.
It still scares me now, i am interested to know how i would be if i was just sat with the gf having a smoke to see if i was past the paranoia bit, but honestly not worth the risk to me.
Anyway..the speed led to some proper ecstasy pills in the 90's, when they were as advertised. out raving having the best time. I was always ok on the other side of it, id come home, eat and force myself to sleep, always felt vague the first few days after, but no different to having a heavy night out on alcohol, that still plays with my emotions in the same way...
AS time went on the pills became more vague as to what they were so i lost interest
in my late 20's coke became a lot more commonplace, and was part of a social weekend with beery, usually indoors in a group of mates.., now it's only for special occasions, weddings etc...It's kind of boring and i certainly wouldn't do it on a night out, the up then down of it would make a really inconsistent experience out clubbing etc.. nowadays when i go out out, ill drink spirits with full sugar coke and that's enough to keep me awake and enjoying everything, without stumbling around like a clown.
Early to mid 30's was a different social period when we would have coke and ket for giggles, usually indoors in a group..
back to the coke, i see the danger in it, a close friend nearly lost his marriage, almost took his life, had a really bad 6 months fuelled by the stuff, and was only helped by counselling. Wasn't a financial issue but an escape from some trauma, and being as he didn't really drink that was his escape...He seems ok now, but still does it in moderation...and argues it's no different to his wife having a glass of wine...
I think I would have agreed with this, but someone who works in mental health was telling me the other day that the vast majority of people presenting with drug-related psychosis have been smoking weed.
A few points about this
There is no medical consensus on what the link between psychosis and weed is - it could be one of 3 things - a trigger ie the individual is susceptible and the weed is a trigger. direct cause ie the weed makes you go psychotic or self medication ie the folk would have had that psychotic break anyway - the increased incidence is that folk who are on the brink of an episode are self medicating or that folk likely to have a psychotic episode are more likely to smoke weed
We cannot do proper research on this because its illegal - you are relying on self reporting so the millions who smoke weed with no ill effects are not seen in the stats
If weed were legalised we could do proper research and people could seek help earlier and we would know better if different strains of weed are more or less likely to have this link.
The link is there for sure but a causal relationship is not proven
Much of the social issues with drugs are not as a result of the drug, its as a result of prohibition. Taking drug use out of the judicial system and into the health system would save lives. Because of the illegal nature folk in trouble tend not to seek help until things fall apart.
leah Betts died because she and her friends did not seek professional help but half remembered stuff and tried to self treat. She would be alive today if she had felt able to seek help
From what I know coke is actually the most dangerous one IMO. Its cost two friends a stroke and another his life from a heart attack ( all had awful lifestyles in general - no exercise and heavy drinkers)
coke is fuelling an epidemic of violent behaviour - young men coked up and full of alcohol leads to aggressive behaviour
As over 110,000 of them demonstrated in central London a few weeks ago
Going off my own friends, I just take it as a given that everyone over 50 spent the entire of the 90’s absolutely ripped to the tits on industrial quantities of weapons grade MDMAPretty much this, started at 14/15 years old, during the off season, continued through to the end of my degree. Wine, women and song most weekends from October to March, rarely hit it enough that i couldn't function by 10 the following morning though, had to get the training in.
But then the old adage does apply…. if you can remember the 90’s then you weren’t there (man)I lost about 3-4 months while at uni when i got injured one year... No training, no racing, no riding at all. Just clubs and catching the 5:35 transpennine home from Manchester...
Anything i could snort, eat or drink... And afford. Knocked all of it on the head when i graduated as most places i applied to for work needed a clean test. And then the racing stepped up a couple of levels as well.
Never smoked anything since, pretty much knocked the booze on the head about 6-7 years ago, never felt the urge to pay for sex either, though some of the places i've ended up, i might have been better off...
Never even had a fag.
Friend did something synthetic / fake when vapes became a thing, and needed medical assistance to get off them. Couldn't have anything with blueberries or blueberry flavour for about 3 years, due to association, as that was the flavour that triggered the anxiety etc.
Seems all OK now back on the real herbal stuff. And I think he can safely have a blueberry muffin again.
