Any idea who I'd contact to see about getting white lines painted on the road to clarify the 'no parking' area - council or the highways agency?

I've narrowly escaped a ticket for parking adjacent to a dropped kerb which I hadn't even noticed was one. The local warden is apparently having field day handing out tickets.

Or, can we just paint some white lines on the road ourselves?

Contact the council for that one. Might be worth looking on their website first to see if there is any information on whether they do this or not and if they do how much they'll charge.

Highways England (formally the Highways Agency) have nothing to do with this and you'll get in trouble for painting your own lines on the highway.

If it was me...ill paint the lines myself.....but it's not cheap stuff
I can't see the council being bothered with painting lines and I can only imagine the hassle involved

I had to take a second look 'cause I thought the title said "dropped kebab"

You don't want to be doing that.

Ta all, the ones around the corner (which are rather obvious) have white lines.

I'll get in touch with the council. Can't hurt to ask.

Weird thing is I've seen a place where the white lines like there have been recently added in between the dropped kerbs instead of across them. All I can think is said place seems to be a (posh) nimby road that doesn't like people parking there to go ride/walk in the forest behind.

Normally I've seen them across the dropped kerbs.

Are these legally enforced or just purely advisory?

White lines generally aren't enforceable but drop Kerbs are. Some local authorities with only enforce drop kerbs over a private drive with a signature from the person in the properly. Over pavement access is their own so they'll just have you for that.

those H bars lines are when it's not obvious like it's a really low kerb or something. and they don't usually ever have them in a residential area unless it's next to a school or something

Should also add my own road has a long stretch of white line on one side of the road across a bunch of houses, dropped or not (oddly on the pavement at one point. Sloppy line painting I think). My side has single yellow. Busy main road.

The white lines are provided by the local authority. Guidance is that the difference between dropped and "normal" kerbs should be clear to motorists, so you might not get lines painted, but consult the LA and don't get your paint brush out 🙂

Nonsense, loads in my street. Cost me 180 quid from council.
