Does anyone know if some nice spots to stop off the M6 ? My lad is coming with me for the drive. I hate motorway services and was thinking there must be some nice spots to stop for a leg stretch...

Close to Leyland? There is always Marton Mere wildfoul sanctuary, thats also close to one of the Leisure Lakes shops, or Rivington Pike, good for a walk up the Pike or a bike ride.

If son is into football, then there is always the national football museum in Preston, before it gets removed to London

or the british commercial vehicle museum in Leyland http://www.bcvm.org.uk/

what time you getting to merlin can meet you and slag your bike, fence and garden off face to face if you want to save time on Internet posting 😉
Depends where you start basically. Nearest two places to Melrin would be Cuerdon valley for a little walk in countryside and Worden park which is near Runshaw College- transport museum is closer than worden and ther eis an indoor play centre opposite transport museum but name escapes me

Ah Leyland, it's where I was brought up. Haven't been back in years, has it changed much?

I can second Worden Park, but I dount they still have the witches hat in the playground nowadays.

You could take a bit of a diversion on the way back to look at Cannock Chase. Postcode for Follow The Dog start and cafe - WS15 2UQ. Makes a 10 mile detour. You might even have a quick pootle on the new bike.
