Just watched this over the weekend.

Absolutely bloody loved it.

Drive - Rotten Tomatoes

After hearing a few of my friends complain that it was "boring", I knew it was going to be good, since they are the same friends that agreed that Independence Day was one of the most "powerful" films they've ever seen 😉

Style over substance? Perhaps, but my goodness, it's pumped full of style.

Going to watch it again tonight with the sound turned up even louder 🙂

ALSO: do not watch any trailers or read anything about the plot. Just watch it, you'll get a lot more out of it IMO.

Though it was aright, wouldn't be in any hurry to watch it again myself

first half was cringeworthy, thought it was a pisstake, then it picked up and I think the second half only works because of the crap first half

oddd one, still undecided

No. This is STW, your opinion must be completely opposite from those who disagree with you 🙂

Well I watched it the same night as I watched Warrior. I ended up watching Warrior again the next day.

So I guess I want to get married to Warrior and hope that Drive gets run over by a train.

thought it was ok, but nothing special. kept loosing interest as hardly any of the characters had any qualities that made me remotely care if they survived the film.

Loved it, precisely because it was style over substance. Similarly, I also loved Lost in Translation. But I can see why others would dislike the film for the same reason.

The storyline wasn't that strong but visually I found it brilliant.

That's funny, me too.
I enjoyed it, but Ryan Gosling's blank expression throughout got on my nerves after a while.

When he's driving over the bridge and the helicopter spots the car so he puts his foot down, they all get pressed back in their seats but the car doesn't actually go any faster and they're still stuck behind the same cars when they come off the bridge! I may have some sort of OCD type thing, but that annoyed me.

Also, that car chase half way through was pretty poor given the the tense build up, especially the naff Fast-And-Furious-esque driving in reverse bit.

i still quite liked it though, especially the music.

Not seen it, and having read the review, not likely to. But Independence Day was great, would watch that one again.

I found the violence in it quite shocking. Not because it was particularly graphic (it's not) but it's certainly brutal. Somebody in the cinema walked out during the lift scene..... wuss.

I watched warrior at about the same time too - which was much better IMO.

Very unremarkable. Forgotten most of it already. Rampart much better.

Drive was OK but Drive Angry was so bad it bordered on genius.

Loved it.

Brilliant soundtrack and Gosling even manages to make double denim a viable option once again for the devastatingly handsome thirty-something man. And me.

I thought it was great. And, as somebody said above, I found it very violent in a non graphic way.

Utter shite, then again I have a passion for the truth and logical analysis.

The whole thing was just pathetic, people are coming to kill you with knives, buy a fracking gun, problem solved!

I like Ryan Gosling and his preference for appearing in slightly leftfield films.

Stylish (mostly) & great soundtrack

Loved the soundtrack, thought the film was ok, but the silver jacket was criminal and the vacant looks cringeworthy. Warrior was pretty good though!

I watched it again last night since after I started this thread I wondered what I would think of it second time round.

It's great, I like it even more now.

The cinematography is beautiful to look at (not exactly original, but still massively refreshing compared to most), the soundtrack is just awesome, and I love how it builds and builds and builds, but never gets too carried away with itself. I like films that make me feel close to the characters, but make them unusual enough for me to watch them rather than imagine myself being them (sorry, don't quite know how to express exactly what I mean!).

Got the soundtrack too now. Was listening to Under Your Spell and A Real Hero on the way to work...buzzing 🙂

All the class of a turnip!

The film was appallingly inconsistent.

Walking around for god knows how long with a blood drenched jacket disguised as an extra from a horror show 😯 dropping the robbers off in an american football game 🙄 , not a single gun to be seen and managing to get stabbed when you should have known it was coming, then turning around and stabbing the guy back 😆 .

Rather than the dumb ass jacket he refused to take off or even wash, how about some kevlar armour?

Hahahahaha!

I didn't like it at all, infact I actually wanted to leave a few times during the film, also it was the first time I have seen more than 15 maybe 20 people get up and walk out.

For me it was a truly awful film and I would avise anyone thinking about watching to avoid it, plenty of good films about.

In an odd way, Drive makes a good companion piece to Blue Valentine. Two great leads (Gosling & Michelle Williams in BV) & a fugging great soundtrack (You and me by Penny and the Quarters).

Rather than the dumb ass jacket he refused to take off or even wash

😀

Film was OK, apart from the irritating 'wizzardy-nook' soundtrack...

the film was all about mood, and if you didn't feel it, then you wouldn't have liked it.
I loved it.
The cinematography was just spot on - so subtle. This film should have been made in the 80s, instead of all the other dross that came out.
The soundtrack is excellent too, but don't buy it afterwards, it's not one you would just sit and listen to.
I saw it at the cinema so will be interesting to see what it's like on the telly - bet it's not half as good.
