I have 60 odd quid of Amazon vouchers burning a hole in my pocket and I was thinking of a Dremel. I know to go for a corded version rather than rechargeable, but does anyone have any strong opinions on them?

Depends what you want to do. Fine detailing, fine sanding, polishing, small cuts, yeah they're handy.

I got one for small bits and pieces and ended up using the cutting stuff to slice through brake hoses. It works but it's not neat. Got a proper cable cutter which is far better.

I got one to [s]tune[/s] [s]port[/s] ruin a 2 stroke barrel because, obviously, Rotax know nothing. They're good for stuff like that, where you're not in a rush and want to remove a little at a time. The right angle attachment is useful too. Oh, and they're handy if you have fibreglass motorcycle bodywork to trim/grind to fit.

I use mine all the time, although I'm very glad it's a cordless version, I don't see the corded version being anywhere near as flexible. I love it because you can just grab it and do whatever quick or fiddly jobs you need to do without having to faff around plugging it in, getting an extension lead or dealing with a chunky cable getting in the way. I've never found a lack of power to be an issue.

Agree with Phiiiil. Its a tool to grab and do a job quickly. There's usually a better tool to do each specific job so if you are setting a dremil up you might as well set the proper tool up. Go cordless.
