Oh man: https://pitchfork.com/news/lee-scratch-perry-dies-at-85/
Madder than a box of (irate) frogs.
But he sure made some amazing music.
This one was a favourite from the very first time I heard it...

So sad!! We saw him just a few years ago and he was incredible but still an old man. RIP Scratch, a proper legend.
Lee Perry and King Tubby arguably the two most influential producers engineers from jamaica , their influence is all around modern music , old four track studios , lee perry used to record animals and thunderclap out side his shack , then add them to dub tracks , he even burnt his studio down thinking it was cursed .
That he lived so long is incredible considering his consumption of weed and especially rum .
King Tubby was killed by a mugger in 1989 , together they took dub to a totally new level , the res5 as they say , is history ! R I P Lee
Oh no.
Amazing artist. Saw him a few years back.
Been listening to him maybe thirty years odd.
Rip Scratch
😪 seen him a couple of times and was looking forward to his next tour…
As has been said.. mad as a box of frogs … or maybe just a great live showman
Hugely influential and innovative.
Tribute on 6music from midnight for 4 or 5 hours.
Awww man
Finally caught the train to doomsville 🙁
lee perry was definitely a showman , but he was more than that , he lived in switzerland last few years , his stage shoes became increasingly erratic , young fans thought he was genius in this state , but those lucky enough to see him thirty odd years ago know different .
He was definitely skatty , but at the same time very grounded.
Saw him in camden about 35 years ago , buster bloodvessel was among us as a punter , we gave him some shrooms .......my mates went back stage after and offered lee some shrooms , but he was only interested in weed .....and rum ...
Gutted
Have thrown many a shape to his tunes, only seen him live once
Rip scratch
Dub Pioneer. a true great even if totally batshine
A true pioneer really walked his own path. As has been said slightly different from the norm RIP
My absolute fave, rivalled only maybe by James Brown. I've seen him live many times and every show had been either excellent or terrible, never anywhere in the middle. He gave me the hat he was wearing once - it was made from an old lampshade.
I sometimes think about the music lost when the Black Ark was burned, what a tragedy! Best dwell on the stuff we did get to experience I guess.
I still find stuff I've never heard before. Scratching around last night I came across a longer version of one of my favourite tracks:
his stage shoes became increasingly erratic
The rest of his outfits were pretty wild too 🙂
one of my fav singles , albeit 12”, never fails
RIP, gutted that I had a chance to see him a couple of years ago but never made it.
I remember the time a friend played me Cowfeet Skank for the first time. Totally blew me away. Crazy, but a very talented man.
Max Romeo's Chase the Devil that Perry produced, is absolutely brilliant.
RIP.
