Install always crashes. I know they'd prefer you to use a Mac but surely they must want to address this problem. Any tips to fix it greatly appreciated!
Win amp?
Never used it myself, but DoubleTwist is often suggested as an iTunes replacement. Might be worth a try.
I've just gone back to 10.7, the last best version imo as I like the FS album covers artwork to be displayed when I want. You will need to uninstall all other versions and other Apple related ie bonjour etc and also manually bin extra folders that aren't deleted. rename your itines music folder as ie noitunes and also your old itunes folder. I'm using Windows 7 btw. I also use the BPM section as my ratings (ie 5 stars = 5 in bpm column as this isn't destroyed when reinstalling any itunes.
If you want something to just manage the tunes on your iPod/iPhone then try Copytrans Manager instead.
No bloatware, simply add tracks then sync job done and its free.
I binned off iTunes ages ago for this.

What does it actually say when it crashes?
Do you need iTunes? (music you've purchased off it or have an iPhone/iPod).
If not, don't use it.
Windows 10's built in Groove app is not too bad, and hooks up with Microsoft's equivalent store (formerly Xbox Music). Better though is you can dump your music in OneDrive and it's available to stream or download via Groove on desktop or Win Phone (or Xbox Music on older Win 8 phones).
Or down and dirty free no ads music player - foobar2000. Winamp got wrecked by commercialism, though still struggles on after AOL made a mess of it, were going to kill it but have finally sold it.
+100 for Foobar2000. Wonderfully lightweight, apple compatible player.
