As per title, youngest daughter's down jacket has two tears in it.

What's the best and most effective repair method?

Have seen some self-adhesive patches on Amazon that might work.

mcnetts tenacious tape.  Most outdoor shops have it - would guess the internet sells it too

Seconded, Tenacious tape. Spinnaker tape might work too.

All good down jackets should be a bit grubby and covered in bits of tape. Daughter may disagree...

As above- buy the roll not the patches as its easy enough to trim to the correct size.

Or Lancashire Sports Repairs, depending how extensive the damage is.

Tenacious tape seems really thick to me

My ancient Rab is patched with spinnaker tape and has been for ten years, been through the wash too- but not often, its a down jacket.

Spinnaker tape helps my ‘work’ down jacket stay filled. It’s slowly changing colour too as the jacket is a very dark blue but the tape is black!

My Rab's been repaired 4 times by a bloke in Harrogate near the Stray. I say 4 but I can only spot 3, he's that good.

My Rab is made of tissue paper & I wouldn't have another, just have to go within 2" of a thorn & it rips.

Warm though.

I’d second Lancashire Sports Repair. Sent my Rab and the other half’s Mountains Equipment jackets there in the past and they’ve come back good as new. They also re-stuff the down if you’ve lost a lot.

Bonus for us was that they hold fabric from both Rab and ME so could colour match accurately.

Give them a ring would be my advice, they’ve been very helpful to me.

Top tip - if you are cutting patches from tape round the corners so they don't peel

I'd second (5th?) Spinnaker tape - fairly thin and flexible  compared the other options but stays well stuck. Survives quite a few washes too.

I've repaired my downjacket about 4 times with the patches on the above Ebay link.

Can't fault them to be honest, they end up being basically invisible if the colour is an exact match. Which is another good reason to by Black jackets.
