Evening all
What are people using these days to patch holes in down jackets?
Mrs B's nice Rab coat sustained this damage today:

Inflicted by Frankie the 5 month old Australian Labradoodle:

Look at him - pure evil.
I suggested duct tape (for the rip, not round Frankie's mouth) but Mrs B wants a more aesthetically please solution.
Try here: https://rab.equipment/uk/service-centre-products/repairs before home repairs maybe?
Heavy metal patch, obvs!
McNetts Tenacious tape. My down jacket has multiple patches on it.
Rab or Alpkit repair service.
Spinnaker tape. Available from chandlers in a few colours, inevitably not the one you want.
It's ripstop nylon tape that will go through the wash loads of times.
Or send it to Rab for repair as above.
Those Aussie Doodles are notoriously evil. This one's exactly seven years older than Frankie and she's a pure psycho.

As above. I've used rab repair for a jacket. Couldn't tell after where the repair was. Latest rip (7year down the line same jacket) I've applied spinnaker tape. But in a contrasting colour.
Just done a rub patch on alpinstars trousers iusingbthe tape as well.
I've darned similar dog damage before to a similar (if not more flimsy) outer fabric
I quite look the repaired look (if someone is looking that closely at stitching on your coat!)
I'm sure the modern patches mentioned above are wonderful
Frankie - contrition writ large all over his face…
Another vote for Tenacious tape. Sleeve seam on my well worn Rab held together with it. Clear and still stuck after multiple wash and tumble dries.
How about a nice fur coat instead? Dog fur of course.
Lucky you. I was forced into the side of a path by a couple of dog walkers, one of whom refused to give any ground, and as a result got caught up on some brambles resulting in not one, or two, but 8 tears to the fabric, 3 of them much larger than that small tear you have.
In fact i would have cheered if it had only been the single bit of damage 😆
And they gave be a dirty look. Path is only so wide, and i cant change the width of my bars, so they could have moved to single file for the 5 seconds, but no, and now my lovely down winter warmer is fubar. All down the bloody sleeve too.
Dogs are cool, a bit naughty at times but some walkers need a lesson in politeness.
Tenacious tape is the normal answer, I've also had good success with superglue if tye whole is not wide
Cheers all.
I'd seen that Tenacious Tape so was wondering if it was any good.
However, that Rab repair service looks excellent so I might give that a go, along with issuing garment guidance about wearing expensive down coats to walk excitable Frankie when its a balmy 8 decrees C.

Yes, a friend mentioned that theirs was a right handful for the first 7 or 8 years (years not months!) just after Frankie joined our family.
but some walkers need a lesson in politeness
Are you saying that walkers should give way to people on bikes on paths?
Thats EXACTLY what im saying.
Path is 7'wide. So explain how we fit a bike, with 800mm bars, and two walkers side by side into 7'
I cant change my width, as i explained in my post, the only thing to make the gap narrower so both parties can pass with comfortable room for both is for the walkers to move aside into single file for 5 seconds.
7 or 8 years...
I believe the 1st 10 years are the worst.

The hierarchy of vulnerability in the Highway Code is going to blow your mind.
A-N-Y-W-A-Y.....
Im intending to first sew the holes as close as possible, then dribble a bit of copydex onto the stitching which is at least flexible and waterproof, but not enough so I'll contact Alpkit to get a patch of the same material and glue those into place. As the holes are pretty much in a line, might be better to place on a largish patch.
I've no idea as yet what would be best to glue on patches.
Anyone any ideas there ?
Any patching is not going to look very good, but its not about looks, it's about warmth.

Tenacious or spinnaker tape it if that's you view.
