Our shower soap dish is / was held on by double sided sticky tape/strip stuff. It lasted about a year. I have then tried 2 different types off Amazon with limited success.
Is there any double sided tape that actually works on a stainless steal soap dish and shower tiles? FWIW its always come away from the tile before the soap dish.

The Gorilla stuff is the best I've found that comes on a roll in an actual shop. The clear version is better than anything else, and the black version is even better.
3M VHB (the stuff that comes on the back of Go-Pro mounts)Â is even better, but seems to be faked a lot.
Having said that sticking stuff to vitreous surfaces is a PITA. Drill some holes and screw it in.
In a shower I'd assume you have warm (soapy) water running down the wall and sitting on the top of the tape. Maybe putting a line of silicon sealant along the edge of the soap dish would keep it dry and add an additional adhesive?
I've always had good success with the 3M stuff. It's a bit thicker than other brands but is rock solid if you prep the surface with IPA or similar first.
IME, 90% of this is preparation.
Make sure the wall is spotlessly clean and dry, rub down with IPA (isopropyl, not beer). Warm up the tile and the sticky pad with a hair drier for a good couple of minutes each before applying. Once stuck, don't load for at least 24 hours.
It's no substitute for actually punching holes in the wall properly of course, but I've hung towel rails like this which have happily held sopping wet bath sheets. A soap dish should be easy money unless you're swinging on it to get in and out of the shower.

This. I've had a 76 projects enduro GPS mounts for a few years which is stuck on the top tube with 3M VHB stuff. I managed to break the mount recently and had to remove the remainder and it took effort to get it off. Obviously that's seen sun, rain, vibration, pressure washer, etc.
Meanwhile, the roll of "3M" stuff I bought from Amazon has been much less effective at much more mundane tasks.

Oh, i also use it to stick the speed controller down in my 8th scale electric buggy, hasn't budged in 4 years. (Despite landing to (almost) flat from 2+m at 50kph twice per lap every time i drive. (Usually 120-150 laps...)
Ditto the touring car (occasional 100+ kph crashes, and a couple of snapped chassis plates, speed controller still firmly affixed.).
Edit, just checked and it's 4910 i use. 25mm wide 1mm thick.
My shower controller kept falling off the wall, so I fixed it with Command Strips. Easily removed to change the batteries, but held solid the rest of the time.

Number plate fixing tape from Halfords. Doesn't feel particularly sticky at first, but it holds your plate on and you think nothing of it until you try to remove it, and then you realise it's stuck like a bastard. Extremely effective and waterproof obvs. Not sure how long it takes to 'set', a few hours maybe. I used it to stick a mud flap on the rear of my Mudhugger Front, which has been very effective, and hasn't fallen off or lifted at the edges at all.

Why not just use the silicon caulk adhesive all around the edge, once the tiles are clean and dry, push on firmly then run a wet finger all around the edge to seal it and remove the excess, that way water will just flow past instead of down inside the joint; just like around the edge of the bath.
If it's just for a soap dish, tray for holding some shower gel or whatever, maybe something that hooks over the shower screen?
You'd have to hang it from a glass screen or something, it won't work with a bathtub/shower curtain scenario.
As above, 3M VHB. It's designed for outdoor use so should be waterproof. Depending on the plastic, you may need the LSE version.
