I'm moving to Dorking in a couple of weeks and keen to check out the trails with more experienced riders as am a complete novice. I know there is a road group that leaves from the sports centre but are there any mountain bike groups locally who I could tag along with?

I'm in Sutton and not too far from Dorking, we have a little local group (Sutton, Epsom, Dorking) that go out (when we were allowed to).
I'm also part of another WhatsApp group.
I'm not the fastest or fittest, but happy to show you where I know round the Holmbury area.
Dorking CC is a big road cycling club. Nirvana has group rides still I think. I'm in Fetcham/Bookham and we ride with an unofficial MTB group called the Dorking Cocks occasionally.
Although Leith/Pitch/Holmbury are where most people head to, Redlands, Box, Mickleham, Ranmore all have good trails.
Post lock down:

Saturday 9.30 fast xc
Saturday 10.00 jumps session
Sunday 11.00 trail ride
There's a mid week moped ride also

BITD there were stories of riders getting dropped on the Nirvana rides, assume that's more likely on the fast XC one rather than a Sunday trail ride? (if it actually happened in the first place!)
Just down the road there's us - Redhill CC, when not locked down we ride the North Downs and Surrey hills every Saturday morning 9:30 - you'd be very welcome to join us once we're free again!
