Following on from my “will I regret a light carpet thread”. I went with a mid shade blue/grey carpet in the end.
The current door bars are gold which go with the old oatmeal carpet, but I’m thinking silver door bars would work better with the new blue/grey carpet I’ve ordered. Problem is the door knobs and door plates are gold, so wondering if I should go gold to match the handles or go with silver door bars which will work better with the carpet.
I guess I could change the knobs, but they also have gold door plates and I’m not sure I’ll get round to it (11 doors). Plus they are pretty old and might not find compatible sizes - it’s a Victorian house.
Anyone had a similar dilemma?
Literally no one looks at the door bars!
If they really do hurt your eyes you can fit new ones yourself afterwards.
(Oak FTW 😉 )
That would be firmly in the F*** It Bucket for me unless they were in a poor state. I replaced all the upstairs door handles with nice ones when we moved in, but the existing ones were mostly sodded.
Matching a thresher strip to the door handles isn't something that would ever have occurred to me.

1. It's not a dilemma.
2. No
What's a door bar?
Anyone had a similar dilemma?
To add more bling to my house so that I look like I want to be a 'celebrity' on a reality TV show? No. Now, if the question was, which door doesn't show muddy tyre prints quite so obviously, then I could get behind it. 😀
Door bar?
Do you mean threshold?
That would make it difficult to open.
Wooden threshold bars look better and removes the problem. Those metal threshold bars look cheap and tacky.
I also wondered WTF door bars were.
I'm sort of in the nobody GAS camp, but I also wouldn't put gold stuff anywhere in my house!!...
First the door bars, then the door handles, then the light and socket switch covers. That way lies madness.
From the OPs description they still have original handles and finger plates. Would be a shame to loose them.
Hadn’t considered wood, but probably too late for that as they are coming tomorrow and they said they carry silver and gold on the van.
Also can’t imagine wood would have the spiked bits to stretch the carpet onto.
Was all set for silver but then someone said you should always match to the handles. Now that’s in my head I don’t know if it will get on my tits if they are different. First world problems I know.
Wood doesn't need the spikes. You run gripper strip like you do against the walls and stretch onto that.
I can already tell from this thread who’s bikes have a multitude of different coloured anodised parts.
If you can’t or don’t want to change the handles then stick with gold/ brass coloured. It will look odd otherwise. Not like they are expensive to change if you think you’ve got it wrong.
bugger, forgot about the light fittings and switches, which are also gold.
Who knew Donald Trump was on STW?
Paint them and the knobs silver
Am I the only person to misread the the thread title as Drop bars to match the carpet ??
I'm thoroughly confused. Is this thread about Gaza, or about pubes versus eyebrows?
I had door bars on my Mk1, but they were black 🙂
My money is on the 'gold' colour of the strips not matching the handles on the doors anyway, so you may as well go for something completely different that matches the carpet better and make a feature of it.
I'd always go silver anyway as any other coloured anodising will wear after a while and look really naff.
Go for silver so you're covered in case of lycanthrope apocalypse.
Also what in Gods name is a door bar or a threshold. Have I got parts of my doors missing or is this something that's not actually part of the door?
Also what in Gods name is a door bar or a threshold
It's the bit under the door that covers the join between carpets or carpet and other floor covering.
And people colour coordinate it? It's hidden most of the time. Every day is a school day. I always called them gripper rods.
