...you order something online and just get an empty box.

Due to having a squealing brake, I took my road bike to the local IBD last week and had new pads fitted to the front brake and the disc cleaned. It was all good for one ride. Next time out, the squeal was back and the brake next to useless, so I decided I'd have a go at sorting it myself.

I ordered a set of replacement pads and paid extra for next-day delivery. Parcel arrived today and when I opened it, there's a packet of Haribo and a nice little Shimano box. Inside the box, there's a pad fixing spring and that's it, no pads no pad axle and no retaining clip.

Ever feel like you've been had?

Its a bummer, but it's probably just a genuine mistake. Get onto them and I'm sure they'll send another set out.

What does IBD mean? I assume its bike shop some how?

If it's had new pads and rotors then squealing again it's probably a leak at the caliper.

I did consider that, but I would hope that the shop would have picked that up first time round.

Also, I can't feel anything on the disc, but I'll be checking carefully once I get a set of replacement pads.

The leak will be tiny and not noticeable, if there is one...it doesn't take much bake fluid to cause issues.

Did you bed the pads in properly and fully? If they got fitted and you jus jumped on the bike and off you went and didn't bed them in, then there could be a bit of glaze on the pads that will need to be removed...that can aid the brake squeal.

Gentle ride home from the shop and then one early morning 10-mile ride and all was good. Next ride horrendous squeal and no stopping power.

That can be brought on by the IBD.

Now I feel like I'm between a rock and hard place. On the one hand, an online retailer that sent an empty box on the other a local shop that potentially cause the problem.

I think that is meant to be a joke, ibd - IBS. Is my take on the statement.

I had an empty box a few weeks back when I ordered a new chain, the box had a picking slip and nothing else. The chain couldn't have fallen out as the box was well sealed and undamaged. I contacted the retailer via the web chat and they asked me to send a photo...yes, they asked for a photo of the item that hadn't arrived 🙂

Padded envelope arrives containing the empty box along with a packet of Haribo. Simples.

I can't eat Haribo as it's got a pig in it, so yes, I hate it when they include Haribo.
I always have to give it away
