The full details will be on the DS911 thread but right not I need to unburden myself, or perhaps just sit in the corner and cry.

After months of carefully crafting the buck from which I will take a mold to make the panels for my car, I was finally ready this evening to start the mold creation process. this involves painting on 2 coats of gelcoat, a coupling coat and then building the mold up with layers of fibreglass.

Tonight I was doing the final touches to the buck so I could put the first coat of gelcoat on to allow it to set overnight.

I mixed up the end of the tin I used for my trial piece and it went on lovely. I opened the next can to finish the job and the gelcoat was green, not black. The original can was Uni-mold Tooling Gelcoat and this new stuff was just Tooling Gel Coat. As the part was already half painted I was sort of committed to completing the job and the gelcoats were both Tooling gelcoat, right?

After I had completed the job I went to look at the other unopened tin of Tooling Gelcoat and it was the green stuff. It was on the second can I noticed it said to use EP60 Hardener, not MEKP. I ran to the first can I used and under the dirt it said the same.

I now have my beautiful buck coated partially in correctly mixed Unimold Tooling gel coat and the rest of it covered in green gloopy gelcoat that will never harden and be a complete bastrad to remove.

Bugger!

Yeah, I got a bit caught out by that, I think that what happens is there is a bit of a delay after posting before the post and photos actually appear - you need to post, then wait a couple of minutes and then everything is there.

Dont follow the Mercedes auto gearbox refilling technique when you are refilling a BMW autobox. Then have a meltdown having spent days and days of scabbling round under a car , in 3'c you are now wondering why the wheels dont go round when they are supposed to.

Rushing , when tired leads to errors . Part of being a grown up is to recognise the symptons and stopping, just need to do the growing up bit.

That is all last nights mistake cleared up. I just need to sand it all to clear the scratches I have made and then rebuild the flanges.

I don't think I will start that at 9pm tonight though, last night didn't end well

Well, that's quicker than I thought you'd get it removed.  It's one of those things you only learn, then go and do it again. You do have to recognise not to do stuff when tired.

Experience is what you acquire just after you needed it.

So today is sore thumbs day(many happy returns) But glad you've sorted it, at least until the next issue hits, which it will, as is the nature of any project like this.

My favourite, is cutting the last mitre of a picture frame the wrong way around. You can check, you can double or triple check, but then you make the cut and realize its ****ed
