Who thought having a round of the World Judo Grand Slam in the UAE was a good idea? (I'm guessing money talks). Hopefully other international bodies will think twice before going there.

if he's anything like our sportsman he probably only know half the words & the tune!! 😆

Agreed - never should been held there if they wouldn't raise competitors flags.

1936 Olympics did better than that!

If you hold a sporting event and you let in competitors from certain countries than you have to prepared to play their national anthem if they win.

what a backward little nation of bigots
I know if only they would create a new country somewhere and settle the lands via war and then continue via endless illegal expansion - that will teach them about respect eh

Disgusting. Nowhere near as bad as their attitudes towards women, homosexuals, atheists or anyone else who does subscribe exactly to their values. But who are we to judge.

Junkyard - lazarus

Oh don't worry, they're just trying to co-finance the establisment of a global caliphate by spreading peace and love to impoverished 3rd world backwaters all over the world. So, that'll be nice.

Screw the uae, they’re amateurs compared with Qatar and the up and coming football World Cup. Not sure they’d even let Israelis into the country.

It's only imperialism when westerners do it, didn't you know this? When India, the Saudis or China do it, it's only in terrified response to brutal capitalist American pig dogs, to buffer their sphere of influence.

I am surprised you did not know this, comrade.

Sport is supposed to transcend politics.

If you are not prepared to play the anthem then don't invite the country to participate*.

*Let's see how far that gets you when bidding to host international events.

POSTED 14 MINUTES AGO # REPORT-POST

It doesn't really matter so long as you don't make a big thing of it when bidding. What tends to clinch the deal is.....

Disgraceful but sadly not unusual. In 2016 (?) the world youth sailing championships where held in Malaysia and the Israeli athletes (kids really) where refused visas so could not even compete !!

If Israel where to qualify for the Qatar football world cup there would be more of this there too.

EDIT:

Screw the uae, they’re amateurs compared with Qatar and the up and coming football World Cup. Not sure they’d even let Israelis into the country.

Friend of mine is a headhunter, had a mandate for a hire from a Gulf country (possibly the one abobe 😉 ) and was told quite directly “No Jews”

Unfortunately high level sport revolves around money. IMO it makes the International Judo Federation look like muppets.

They love jiu jitsu too 😆

No but seriously. Grappling sports are huge in the middle east, and there's huuuuuuuuuge sponsorship/patronage from sheiks and royalty available for muslim fighters who do well on the world stage.

[quote=Kuco ]IMO it makes the International Judo Federation look like muppets.

Even more so when they refuse to acknowledge the nationality of judoka on their own website

https://www.ijf.org/news/show/abu-dhabi-grand-slam-2017-uae-day-one

search for "(IJF)" and those judoka are all Israelis. Completely sold out - I'm feeling pretty disgusted with the IJF.

It says at the bottom of that page "Report any problems to admin@ijf.org" - have just sent an e-mail pointing out they've made mistakes on that page...
