We have a sony telly that is sort of smart, in that with a Sony dongle it can get a few online services.
However, these thing are £35ish so I wondered about getting dongle usb tv thing but which one would you recommend, Amazon Fire, now tv or anything else?

Cheers

Ps. I don't need to access sky, but BT sport would be good, for moto GP. I'm a BT customer so have this on tablet.

I'm also looking for something like this - for my parents who have fast internets but crap aerial reception (and won't get a dish for some reason).

Do any of them let you watch live freeview channels i.e. BBC/ITV/CH4 or is it on-demand services only? If that is the case Now TV is looking like the best bet but would like to hear what people think!

Chromecasts are generally very good for this sort of thing.

You should be able to cast from your ipad/phone to the TV to watch BT Sport too. Check that with others that have both first though incase they have blocked it somehow.

@zilog you can watch live tv by sending the picture to the tv/dongle from a computer or smartphone

OP, what you buy will be driven in many respects by your pine/computer/tablet. If the tablet in Android I'd get a Chromecast. We an an Apple household so we have Apple TVs (the original ones are still available for £69)

Chromecast now £25 in Currys - for that it's a no brainer.

EDIT: Apple house here too, but ATV isn't very useful. Use a Roku or XBox for general TV catch up and Plex for serving movies. Unless you buy everything TV wise thorugh the Apple store I wouldn't get an ATV (I hae one, last generation, and it just gathers dust - Plex does music better too).

A Chromecast will work for you. BTSport supports chromecast too, apparently.
Use mine for Plex, iPlayer, All 4, Eurosport, YouTube, etc. Best gadget I've bought in years. Works so much better that the Samsung 'Smart' features in the telly.
£25 is well worth it.

May consider an new ATV when the App Store is a bit more developed.

If your IT skills are ok, i'd opt for Amazon Firestick. Download Kodi to it and then add the Wookie program to Kodi.

If you're interested in a second hand Chromecast, I've got a spare that i'd be willing to sell. Make me an offer for whatever you feel it's worth.

Thanks for the suggestions so far.
Chrome cast is tempting with BT sport compatibility and currys offer a £20 Google voucher too.

From a luddite. Do these Chromecast things just talk to the router? Bit like a smart telly?
I notice above that some one wants to watch Eurosport. Am I right in assuming that this will still need something like Eurosport player which I use on the PC?
