Hi all
I just listened to an interview on YT of the Scottish CBT therapist and general all round stoicism guru Donald Robertson and was truly uplifted by his presentation of the Stoic wisdom he has studied and applied for over 25 yrs.
It may be subjective but his down to earth style of education combined with the accent made for great listening and the content made so much sense ..I felt truly excited and inspired to learn more and hopefully use it as an antidote to the stresses and strains of living that I ( and many others it seems) have struggled with for decades .
It's quite uncanny how an engaging , undoubtedly genuine and enthusiastic teacher can really make a subject more accessible and relevant to our current predicament ...the one of increasing levels of stress and troubles which seem to be growing exponentially.(.particularly recently.)
It's probably just me ...being my usual overenthusiastic self (when I come across practical wisdom that really seems to have potential to make ones life more enjoyable ....or at least less painful)
Those with an interest in Stoicism will probably hear nothing new but if you have an hour to spare ( I listened when riding) and fancy learning about the power of stoicism to perhaps ameliorate some of your daily struggles then I can wholeheartedly recommend ..in fact "insist" you invest the time ... it might change your life for the better ... It has certainly given me an appetite to learn more and hopefully use it to achieve my lifelong desire to find peace of mind before the final curtain.
Hope it's of interest and even better ..helps all of you out there that often feel up xxxt river without a paddle!
Good luck and I wish you well.
Bill

Thanks will take a listen. I've drifted into learning about stoicism after starting to study some philosophy over the past few years.
If you enjoy this look on / at Life I would encourage you to look around other philosophers and take what you find useful from them. That's the advantage over religion, there is no one true truth (although I now consider most religions to be a philosophy that due to the weakness and greed of human run organisations have corrupted and "made ridged" with extensive rituals, but that's another story), just find your own path.
Totally agree.. I've had the pick and mix approach for years and as for religion ...well it seems like many people like being manipulated by blind belief and nonsensical stories.
Personally I prefer practical wisdom as found in Buddhism and is seemingly the cornerstone of Stoicism also.
