Booking up the family holiday for next year. Planning two weeks in Italy in July. First week will be beach and pool fix near Venice. Then plan to hire a car and make for the hills. Anybody got any top tips for the Dolomites during the summer with kids (ages 6 and 8)? Accommodation, activities... Bike hire places that will do 16-24" wheeled mountain bikes maybe 🙂
Val Gardena might be worth a look. We’ve staying in the valley a few times, mainly staying in Selva for biking, climbing & hiking. The next town down the valley is Ortesei and I reckon there’s more there for young kids - big outdoor pool complex, cable car up to big alpine plateau (Alpe di Suisi) that has traffic free family friendly cycling. I think there’s also kid friendly rock climbing stuff if that’s relevant.
If you feel the need to escape for some ‘proper’ biking without kids, I can recommend the uplift trails at Selva - or hook up with one of the English speaking guides from Selva and go on a tailored ‘Enduro/gravity’ version of the Sella Ronda. I did the latter and the guides get heavily discounted lift passes, so I effectively only paid 14 euro to hire the guide! We ended up doing about 60+km 4500m descending and only about 800m uphill pedalling - it was very good😁
HTH. Any Qs just ask.
The Germans are very into kinderhotels, which may be worth a Google.
