We're renting a cottage next week near to Dollgelau.

Approx 8 of us not all bikers

We plan to have a day biking at coed y Benin, a day on tryfan, a day up cadair idris, a day out for the little ones at blanau ( or closer small railway ?)

Any other great tips, trips, restaurants, pubs etc ?

Oh and were taking the road bikes for a regular morning ride ... Are we near any biggie road hill climbs ?

Ta

Center for alternative technology is that way somewhere IIRC and worth a wander round.

- Talyllyn Railway down at Twywn
- How old are the little ones? If over 7 you could do the trampolines in Llechwedd Slate Caverns
- Wander down the Mawddach Trail, could park near Arthog and lunch in the Last Inn, Barmouth.
- Precipice Walk, nr Dolgellau
- Nice short walk from either Aberdyfi or Happy Valley to the Bearded Lake

We go most years, had a week at Arthog over NY. And the Spar at Dolegellau does a great range of local beers!

And for road, there's a cracking loop I do that goes up past Snowdon, Betws and back down via Blaenau. That's a beast of a climb IIRC. There's a decent short loop from Dolgellau, down to Arthog, over the railway bridge, back to Dolgellau and up past Cadair and Cregennan Lakes. You could go the other way and up from Arthog to Cregannan, bit steeper.

Centre for Alternative Technology is closed until March. You can still wander around the place, but the shop and cafe etc are closed.

I can recommend lunch at the White Lion in Mach + good ales.
Bloody love it round that area, getting emotional just thinking about it, good times. 😀

Easily the best coffee in Mid Wales and an irrationally large selection of home-made cake 🙂

+1 for Robert's Cafe, my favourite in the world ever and quite delighted to see it still running.

George III at Penmaenpool is a nice short ride or decent walk away down the surfaced old railway line from Dolgellau that runs along the Mawddach Estuary all the way to the coast. Great location, RSPB station there. Really nice and beer and food last time we went a year or so ago.

+1 for Cregennan Lakes.

Up behind and between Fairborne and Arthog there is a disused quarry you can explore, with a striking blue lake in the centre, accessed through a (short) old narrow gauge tunnel cut through the rock. Incredible views out towards the Llyn Peninsula in a clear day.

Have you seen the zip wires at Ffestiniog I think.
Google it.
I'd recommend the Star Inn. The beer is cheaper than squash, locals friendly and juke box full of obscure indie.
