We have 2 Schipoo pups who weight about 6kg each and we have an adapted electric Wheelchair in front trike for my daughter so we can travel around locally without the car in a very quiet part of France.

As the pups are not quite ready for kennels and our regular beast sitter is away at the same time as us they are coming with us this summer.

It would be good when we are out and about on the bikes to take them with us so thought about towing them in one of those kiddie/pet trailers either behind the trike or the wife's normal hybrid.

Anybody done anything similar and if so what were your experiences and any recommendations for trailers, ideally folding as space in the car will be at a premium.

Burley do one - the nicely named 'Tail Wagon'

We have one. Expensive but good quality. Aluminium frame, relatively light. Its folds flat and the wheels qr off, but still takes up a fair amount of space. Its basically the same as their kids trailer without the seat. Our dogs are 18+8 kg so 2 smaller dogs would fit fine.

Unfortunately despite our best efforts to acclimatize our dogs they absolutely hate it, so we rarely use it. But friends have borrowed it for their dog and they are happy as. Do use it for shopping when camping now, its very useful to have for that.

If you do get one check the mounting. Most assume a regular bolt on or qr rear axle. Sourcing the right adaptor for bolt through axles is confusing, you need a whole new axle. Got one from SJS in the end but it was tricky.

We got the burley and it is well made, but any kids trailer with the seat removed should be fine.
I couldn't understand why we needed to tow an empty dog trailer for 20 miles just to put him in it for the last few miles when he got tired- just shorten the ride slightly was my thought. Apparently we got it for when he got older and arthritic. Then he went from not needing it to 'to ill to go in it' in the space of a month. It cost us about £250 a go and he didn't need it then, it was just trial runs. It folds reasonably small, especially with easily removeable wheels. just as well as it never leaves the shed.
Go on marketplace and get a second hand kid trailer would be my advice.

Managed to bag a Burley 2 seat kids version for £50 in good condition off FB - now just got to convince the pups it's a good idea 🙂

Could work if you treat it like a crate, introduce it gradually, leave it in the kitchen, leave rewards/food in there, then introduce them to the idea of it moving, etc.

mate picked up a kiddie trailer for 20 euro the other week for his new hound. removed the seat and chucked in a blanket. just make sure it's zipped up before you set off.

on another note, in Munich the number of Babboe cargo bikes designed specifically for dogs is crazy....

We had a kids trailer for our collie, bear in mind that the high point for a kids head is not where a dog's head is. We had to modify it so the dog could sit comfortably but if your dogs are small they'll be ok.

Also don't underestimate how hard it is to pull the trailer plus dogs, it can be hard uphill!

Eventually a friend gave us a cheap dog trailer from Amazon that was actually quite good and fitted through our gate. The kids trailers are usually too wide to pass through so can be a faff. The Amazon was under 100 quid but pretty good, we didn't feel we needed to spend more.it folds fairly flat but is quite long. Definitely keep it under cover as the UV will do for the canvas
