Anyone take their dog on overnight bivvy trips?

Missus is away at the moment, so I've got sole responsibility for the mutt and I'd like to do a (very) short overnighter using a hammock rather than a tent.

I'll only be gone from home from just before dusk to just after dawn so the mutt can stay at home by himself but just wondering whether anyone takes the dog with them...

If so, any practical tips?

(Location is nowhere near any farm livestock or any other "anti-social" location, before anyone asks...)

I camped below the South Peak on the cobbler with my dog. She didn't understand echoes and barked at that other dog for hours.

As above, barking because of being in an unfamiliar situation made for a poor nights sleep!

mrs. del and i have camped with 3 or more dogs where the interior of an A6 makes a pretty good habitat for them, right up until her errant brown spaniel makes his way in to the front and lands on the start/stop, switching on the lights and the stereo! 😀

I’ve been meaning to do this this year - ride to an outlying area, camp out and then ride back in the morning. I might just leave it a bit later in the year and do a bothy trip instead. Keeping my dog under control in livestock areas easily managed with a harness and bike-joring antenna. For me, going at my dog’s pace and making sure I carry some ‘home’ comforts for my dog like a bed, food etc. is more important than distance, speed etc.

Max dog is totally bike savvy. Bothied and bivvied loads of times in all sorts of weather. To be honest, camping is a bit of a pain, wet mucky dog plus tent is not a good combination but if bivvying it works well. Stick the dog on a long leash at bedtime and then let pooch curl up beside you. No need for a bed or other frivolities. Let the fire slowly die down and enjoy.

Took my 2 along the top half of the West Highland Way, slept quite happily in the tent, on a sleeping mat, no bother at all.

We did have an overnight stay in the Kingshouse as we had got absolutely soaked and needed to dry out. Best bath ever. For me not the dawgs.

Get your dog some panniers!  I have seen dogs out in the hills with them
