Today I said goodbye to my best friend Bacon. 14 years, diabetic and blind but could smell food from a mile away.

RIP Bacon 🙁 Lost our dog of over 18 years at Easter. Not a nice feeling. We have since bought two pups which has softened the blow a little, especially for our kids.

Oh dear thats not good. Dont leave it too long before you get another. We left it 13 years after we lost Surf before deciding to get Fin. Should have done it sooner.

Sorry to hear that OP, RIP Bacon.
It's hard when you lose 'your best friend' we till miss our Felix and still can't think about getting another cat yet 1 1/2 years on.
It's getting a little easier with time but some way off getting another yet.
Some say get another pet sooner rather than late but each to their own I say.
Car recommend the Blue Cross if you need someone to talk to about your loss. They were fantastic for us and we now donate to them when doing charity stuff.

RIP Bacon.

My eldest is about 15 now and he is really grey but still running about sometimes, eating like a horse and being cheeky but I'm dreading anything happening.

I've a Cat who is nearly 16 and he's still a miserable so and so but I love him. My other Cat died a couple of years ago and she was only about 5. She was a absolute sweetheart, used to follow Me round the House, into the Street but never left the Pavement and cuddled up to Me like the Dogs do. Just found Her dead one morning 🙁

RIP Bacon

The eponymous Ratadog left us just before Xmas at the grand old age of 17. She was blind and had developed a neurological wasting condition affecting her back legs and although she doddered along happily for many months she eventually got to the stage where life became impossible. Didn't post here at the time as hurt too much.

With a little time and perspective you remember all the good times. Spent this evening's meal laughing and reminiscing about her attacking tea towels and acting as heavy mob for the cat.

Adieu, Bacon.

Sounds like he's had a good innings with great human companions.

Stand down Bacon.
As an owner of two dogs myself, I'm dreading the day I have to make that call.
