There is talk in the house of getting a dog. However, there is a possibility my daughter is allergic, which would put a stop to the idea.
We did dog sit a few years ago and her allergies flared up but it was 8-9 years ago and I believe things can change.
Has anyone done an allergy test? Stage 2 would be another dog sit but it seems worth it.
Any suggestions?
We too are looking at getting a dog. I'm the allergic one. (47 year old male.) Wife and daughter have been talking about getting one for what seems likes YEARS!
I'm up for it but a bit worried about my allergy. Been around friends dogs and sometimes not too bad, sometimes really bad reaction.
Apparently you can get "hypo-allergenic dogs." You can also get amazing anti-histimines from the docs and apparently if you get a dog you will build up a natural immunity to them anyway. Also lead to believe that its "only the dogs skin that makes you sneeze so just stay away from its skin and you will be fine."
Hope you get the dog you want. I think I'll be back on this forum in a years time saying exactly the same stuff..... again without a dog...... It does take a LOOOOOOONNNNNNNGGGGGG time to decide sometimes!
....... Bet she reads this thread........ Jesus what have I done mentioning dogs again!..... Please can we have a "relaxing day." Not like Saturday when we scrapped our family car and you would have thought we had a death in the family.... (Well according to the reaction of our 10 year old, who is still wearing black and refusing to open the curtains.)
One option would be go for a dog like a poodle, which is one of several breeds which don’t produce an allergic reaction.

We have one of those. A cockapoo.
My highly allergic sister-in-law confirms no reaction.

I'm not sure this is what you want to hear, but that's true. MrsIHN was allergic to dogs when we got our first one (indeed allergic to a lot of stuff, with hayfever, eczema and asthma, classic auto-immune trio). She had to take over-the-counter anti-histamines at first (one a day), then after about two weeks went to one every other day, then after a month she was fine. Her eczema also calmed down a bit after a while.
Same again when we got new dog, but not to the same extent; anti-histamines for a few days until she got used to it. And her 'general' allergy level has improved.
Perchy..... Yeah....... but its a cockapoo
Cockerpoo here as well, wife doesn't seem to be allergic to him (she's allergic to lots of other things)
He's a great dog, really friendly, easy to train but does get excitable (might be his young age - I've heard Cockerpoo's take longer to come out of the puppy phase)
They don't shed their fur so he does need taking to the groomers every 2 months.
In truth she’s more poo than cock
Better a cockerpoo than a poococker

Glad to hear it. Obligatory pics/link?
No dog in particular yet. Just prefer mutts.
