After an insulated mug. I want one with a lower centre of gravity than the usual taller, narrower ones. This would be handy for when I'm on the train as class 66's have a shocking ride and no cup holders, necessitating me holding the cup in places where I know it's going to tip over. It's not even that tall or narrow compared to many, it's just that 66's are dreadful at speed.

Plenty of these types of mug about but I'm yet to find one with a leakproof lid (im thinking screw top). I'd want leakproof so I can bung it in my bag if need be. The closest I've come to short, squat and leakproof is a food flask but they're not the nicest to drink out of. The leakproof bit is sort of non negotiable as if I can't find a leakproof one I may as well just carry on as I am with the mug I have (which is excellent, apart from its slightly tippy tendencies).

Something like this?

Edit - even cheaper in their bundles as well.

Something like this? https://www.bananaindustries.co.uk/collections/drinkware/products/copy-of-bottle-for-life-32oz-990ml

I've got a similar one but with just a screw top lid, keeps stuff warm, doesn't leak, hasn't broken even when it rolls out of the boot

You can get this shape of mug. Sometimes known as sailing mugs. Not sure about a UK supplier though

Quick google brings up a Stanley version called - Stanley The Tough-To-Tip Admiral's Mug

Frank Green Ceramic 8oz

https://uk.frankgreen.com/products/stainless-steel-reusable-cup

I use their 6oz, which is very squat, but I don’t think they import it into the UK anymore.

[ how hard is it to post on this website today!! ]

Contigo West Loop.

Depending on the model, some have wider, more stable bases than others but they don't match your specifications.

HOWEVER. They don't spill. Or leak.

Best mugs we've used. Have 5 or 6 in the family & we give them regularly as presents and all the recipients still use them.

I love my Yeti mugs and tumblers, but they’re not leakproof.

https://uk.yeti.com/collections/mugs

So, I keep hot stuff in a Chilli bottle thermos (or at least I did until I left it on the bloody train back from London a couple of weeks ago) and decant as necessary.

Although I’ve just noticed Yeti do a leakproof one that I didn’t know about…

The Singletrack shop had (need to check if still available!) A good one from Klean Kanteen that seals well. It is the taller / narrower type, but does hold the heat well and the cafe cap will seal OK when it does tip over.

Otherwise you need a different locomotive. One with decent suspension.

May I suggest a class 90 for those wanting retro-chic, Class 91 for outright speed (though verym high maintenance too), or getting yourself on the waiting list for a 93 or 99 if you're into the latest tech.

@StuF I actually have that bottle (under a different name) for my water. Bit big for use as a mug.
@dyna-ti slight overkill base wise but I'd consider it is it was a screw lid rather than just a push on type?
As for the other suggestions they're pretty similar to what I've got width/height wise. Yeah, I could go smaller but I'd prefer to stick around the 400ml mark which this is. Edit, i see this photo has made this mug look slightly taller and narrower than it actually is.17011933572162419312216682823911

@robertajobb, they're withdrawing our Class 60's 😢 magic carpet ride compared to a 66.

I got a mug from the Long Mynd Batch Burner this year. Looks exactly like the banana industries mug. Only use it at my desk and not a screw top but seems to keep the liquid in it and hot. Low COG as well for the win.

Don't think I'd trust throwing it in my bag when full of tea/coffee/warm lemon drink though.

This looks good. 2cms wider and 5cms shorter than my existing mug. No idea if that is a screw lid, however. I am aware that it has a slide lock sippy thing in the lid. EDIT, it appears that other Thermos travel mugs have screw lids. Think I'm gonna take a punt. Cheers all. Screenshot_20231128_181411_Amazon Shopping

If it's anything as good as the Thermos tumbler I've got it'll be ace. The lid seals really well and it stays hot for an eternity. Lid needs a good frequent clean though otherwise it gets funky. 61Pdq-IN0AL._AC_SL1500_

Bought a 'standard' thermos flask for use on the bike on winter rides, so good , I use it for work now too.

I know it's bigger than a mug (basically two mugs) and won't stand up to a bumpy train ride, but so what, you flip the cap down, shove it in your bag & have lots to drink.

Thermos direct drink flask 470ml (with attached flippy cap).

Barista at my local artisan coffee shop was trying to convince me I needed a Topl cup - allegedly spill proof.

the yeti rambler with the leakproof lid is really good. Smaller sizes are squat but to be honest a quarter turn takes the lid from leakproof to drink from any side you happen to pick t up. So it’s super easy to just open and shut as you want to drink

keeps stuff warm for ages & lid design is best I’ve seen keeping clean.

Have one of these in 8oz and a 12oz. I reckon the 8oz meets your need, also has a little anti-splash widget in them.

Don't use the 12oz much, was handy as it fit in an ammo pouch nicely when on range duties.

Also have a contigo , never spills or drips, but Jeezus beware ,the tea in mine actually gets hotter, than it went in, plus side stays hot for ages.

Both yeti and kleen kanteen make this shape.of mug.

Would buy in a heart beat if I had a need based on my stw kleen kanteen cup.

Bodum also make one - I had one go round the world with me for work for 12 years before I dropped it off the roof of car at celtman.

At Celtman ? Now there's a back handed brag if I've ever read one!

(Covid times ****ed me for trying to get in, and currently I'm waaaay to fat and slow and unfit. I did their demo Xtri on the Isle of Man in 2019 which was ace. Even with the swim (my best leg) cancelled due to the force 7 storm parked right above the swim course.👍

I have one of those Fellow Carter Move flasks as well, for carrying cold drinks in a bum bag on hot rides. Very good. Never leaks. Not as stable on tables etc as the Frank Green I use for coffee though.

Took the plunge on the Thermos King desk mug. Similar dimensions to my food flask which is stable on the loco. Screw lid as well. Although I have to say @relapsed_mandolorian that one you posted sounds good with the ceramic interior. Oh well, you'd posted after I purchased.

Re the spilly thing being an issue, the cup sits on the control pedestal to my right at head height. When it decides to go it goes and I've been caught out more than once where the cup has toppled and rolled out of reach! And we won't mention the time it didn't have its lid on... I reckon that thermos will do the job but crikey, lots of recommendations. That's what I love about this place. Cheers all.

never said i was doing it - i was there to drive the car round and keep our athlete fed and moving (it was during this process i drove off with my cup on the roof) then run over the hill keeping them moving and slowly donating the majority of my clothes and food to a cold wet athlete making steadily less sense....

great event but i don't enjoy open water swimming so unlikely to ever do it.

If the surface is smooth and flat, maybe one of those suction-cup mugs woukld be better, if they still exist
