Been looking at car stereos for the new van I have coming.

What I would like is something that can mirror my phone screen (android), play spotify, bbc sounds & any podcast. While at the same time mirroring the googlemaps or whatever niche STW sat nav app I'm using at the time.

I don't want all the built bells & whistles like GPS, just essentially a dumb amp & screen.

Perhaps this:

Chapeltown stereo place

I have one in my GTO but it is working with my apple phone with CarPlay - no idea if the functionality is the same with Android but it would tick most of your boxes (and has DAB).

That Kenwood one linked above is what I have and it's brill. Ticks every box that OP wants at a significantly cheaper price than any other decent manufacturer and sounds great. Works perfectly with Android and Apple phones. Only thing I did was get a separate, better DAB aerial but that's cos I live in the sticks and reception can be a bit poor.

Which van? Absolut5 do some packages for T5/T6. They tend to use the Kenwoods. The 8019/8020 should be able to connect via WiFi. I’m looking at these for our T6, Absolut5 will sell the correct Kenwood harness which allows the original parking sensors on the screen

Yep, basic double DIN with Android Auto is what you want. DAB radio on the unit if you want it. Your phone does the rest.

If you don’t have steering wheel controls, the Sony units with a proper volume knob are nice (I have one in the family wagon). The rest generally have teeny buttons which can be a bit fiddly.

Not quite using a screen but the Pioneer SPH-20DAB lets you plug in your phone - use it as a screen and run maps/Spotify etc for minimal price of around £100-150 I think.

We had a Kenwood DMX7017DABS fitted in our T5 Caravelle, cost wasn't cheap as I had it integrated to the multifunction steering wheel and a few bits. Really liked it, the factory unit in our T6 has CarPlay/ Android as standard.

I had a Trio system back in the '80s Kenwood now. Separate amp it was the dogs bollox back then in my Mirafiori Sport although a Volvo sound system takes a bit of beating, could be their solid build that helps

Android effort off of Aliexpress might be an option.
