I've had to run a phone cable temporarily around the kitchen. Is this a problem if it runs underneath a freestanding gas oven? I expect the floor may get warm but not 200 degrees hot, so a thin cable should be ok?

Its only a phone cable - what's the worst that could happen?

If its anything like my oven the bottom of the actual oven barely gets warm when the thing is on gas 9 so underneath I can't imagine getting even a few degrees above ambient.

No or it would be a fire risk.

Hot air rises so unless your oven is upside down you'll be fine*

Thanks all, appreciate clearly not ideal, but would be helpful to get some feedback to help assess this. For example, is a modern oven *expected* to be insulated, so this should be OK, but don't leave unattended, or is it a case that this can only lead to disaster...

It’ll be fine they don’t get hot.

Ovens are routinely built in to wooden cabinets. Inside the wooden cabinets will be mains cable to power the oven.

Draw your own conclusions.

Or sitting on foam-backed vinyl floors

Our Ooni Pizza oven has zero insulation and the stone base gets to over 500c - The piece of wood it sits on barely gets warm.
