Is this not a Chicken and egg scenario?

Do drugs make you stupid, or are you stupid to do drugs...

No,

and medically it helps more people than you could ever imagine.

It needs controlling in much the same way as Alcohol and tobacco with strict regulations/education to protect the <18's

Anyone got any pizza? Or Pringles. Green ones. And diet coke. Maybe a twix.

Or Twiglets.

Who are you again?

An eight point decline on the IQ scale........doesnt sound like a big price to pay, I can live with that.

I wonder what (if any) the decline down the IQ scale is for getting older.

Mr Bhatia says the product is not claiming to restore a woman's virginity, but to restore the emotions of being a virgin.

Maybe he could also invent a cream that doesn't claim to restore your IQ but just makes you think you have a higher IQ.....

It's certainly the excuse I like to give myself for failing to achieve stuff in life. 🙂

OK, but... 1, it's about heavy use (not recreational use). 2, it's a very small sample (40 people met the criteria according to the TV report) and 3, they can't rule out a parallel cause (frinstance depression/withdrawal can lead to a lower IQ score, and is also well linked to drug use). Oh and 4, of course, IQ is a ropey guide to actual intelligence.

I wonder what sort of figures you get if you take someone who drinks heavily from their teens to their late 30s?

A UK expert said the research might explain why people who use the drug often seem to under-achieve.

This UK expert would suggest to that UK expert that perhaps they haven't spent enough time caned to realise just how hard it is to pull your finger out and get off the sofa after a dooby, rather than it having anything to do with your IQ.

What bigjim said and grum points to.....

I just got sick of watching life pass me by even though I enjoyed it, fact is everyone is different but it was that reason that made me quit a 15 year habit

ive never tried dope (or any other illegal substances)
but, in answer to the OP i dont think so.
i will say there are some incredibly stupid people who smoke dope, just as there are some incredibly stupid people who choose not to.
a ****wit is a ****wit, regardless of whether they smoke dope (or drink heavily every day etc) or not.

also, pmsl @ vaginal cream and then filling a gap in the market ^^^^

From personal experience I think it does affect your short term memory.

However, I do remember one night when we ordered 3 take always - ate one, ordered another and so on!

Also once cooked a whole chicken and put it in a sandwich. That was a heavy night!

just to put that into perspective, 8 points on an iq test is about the difference listening to Mozart for 15mins once a day makes.

the headline and content of this study are wildly different. the study showed that those who smoke dope in adulthood had no effect on iq. whereas those who smoked in their teens saw a mild negative affect. and yet the internet is now reeling with 'dope makes you stupid'
anyone here let your kids drink? take valium? prozac? no didnt think so but these are ok are are they?

never mind the fact a 30 year study showed no harmful effect in adults for a recreational drug with wide reaching medical benifits though.....think of the children

Does The Beta Band count?

If so, I should be just about IQ neutral.
