need a new kettle after letting our current one boil dry leaving a nasty brown crust on the bottom and a slightly melted base.

anyone know whether there is an electric kettle with a whistle (kitchen is a long way from the lounge... figure it should save me re-boiling water when i forget that i've just put the water on to boil) available on the market?

something like this, but whistley....

Why not get one which automatically turns off when it boils?
Which is almost all of them in the UK.

Alessi do one but it's £150.

They do sell the whistle to go in the top quite cheap though. Not sure if fitting something restrictive to the vent on an electric kettle thats not designed for one is a good idea though as might cause leaks due to increased pressure inside.

edit: or the one posted!

surely any electric kettle will need a cut-out switch anyway (as a safety device) if you stick a whistle on the top it will only whistle for seconds before the cut-out activates and switches it off.

what happens if you don't hear the whistle for those few seconds?

Rendo - will still be steam coming out. Restricted spout means it will take longer too.

But boiling time is grazing time?

Sorry but how will a retricted spout make it take longer?!

That doesn't really work with stove top kettles, which is where you need a whistle, otherwise it's pointless.

We've got this, boils water like a cheap kettle does but looks great

They also do a stove top version.

I just rest a tea spoon on the On switch - kettle boils, button pops up, clatterclatterclatter. Aside from having to repeatedly fish spoons from behind the units, it works a treat (i'm aware this doesn't answer the question, but this is STW)

otherwise, maybe tape one of these to the spout?

It wasn't, and I have no intention of justifying it.

Price / Hours of usage = still probably ratio higher than most bikes on here.

Though I did have a Hinari £5 from Woolworths one that worked just fine for 27 years.

Yeh but I bet it looks shit.

Anyway we've got this one now as the cream whistler didn't match our kitchen. I'll be selling the bird one on eBay.
