Has anyone waxed any Fjallraven G1000 fabric?
The instructions say to wax, then iron on a medium setting.
Does this ruin the iron? If so, would using grease-proof paper as a barrier work - so, trouser, wax, paper, iron? Or should I just buy a cheap iron for dedicated waxing purposes.
Thanks in advance.
Dunno. But I use a hair dryer to give a lovely mottled effect.
Dont use a steam iron. Buy a travel iron or dedicated ski/snowboard waxing iron

I did this for ski waxing, but note your SO may look at the iron and think it should go in the bin (I caught her before she got anywhere with it.)
I do the hairdryer thing as well
As a slight thread derailment - how much waterproofing does the wax add?

Depends on the amount of wax, but it's in DWR territory, rather than membranes.
Also needs to be reapplied quite often in my experience, which isn't actually on G1000, but similar cotton and cotton/plastic fabrics.
I hold whatever I'm waxing in front of the woodburner and it melts in seconds. Seeing as this is STW, most should be able to do the same. It saves running the gauntlet of borrowing the wife's hairdryer or destroying the iron.
Several repeat applications can make a garment pretty repellent (to water - already repellent to women). Give the seams extra attention.
My favourite dog walking jacket is a Sarma Smock

but wax/Fabrasil/Nikwax cotton doesn't stop it from wetting out after awhile. I think the weave is to 'loose' compared to G1000. I'm tempted by a Fjallraven seeing as it's coming into sale season.
I wax mine then stick it in the tumble dryer.
Maybe I'm being a bit dim here, but how would the wax 'ruin' an iron? Surely you just clean off any traces of the wax after application and it reverts to being an iron again. It's not corrosive and should just wipe off a warm iron with a clean rag / cloth / a handy long-haired cat or dog.
I guess it might be slightly tricky to remove traces from strange little steam iron nozzles, but I'm not sure that counts as ruination.
Separate wax iron for me. Was £5 in the supermarket and not worth ruining the spendy steam iron we have by contaminating it with wax.
In the 9months since posting above I've acquired a few Fjallraven trousers and jackets (at sale prices!)
By far the best thing to melt the Greenland wax is the wife's fancy steam iron - the type with the separate water tank base station and hose to the 'iron'.
Really daub the wax on and give it a steam blast, whilst the material is still warm from the steam scribble a bit more wax on. Lighter coloured G1000 gets dark stripes and patches when really loaded with wax - darker colours are better.
Also give the wax block an occasional scrape with a knife as the applied edges get clogged with fibres and it doesn't apply to the G1000 after awhile.
I've got a Fjallraven jacket that is (or was anyway!) my going to the pub jacket. Is it possible to get a nice enough finish on the wax that it not look odd in a city pub?

I can’t speak to coat waterproofing wax but snowboard wax will absolutely ruin an iron whose job is supposed to be for work shirts.

I dont know how your pub style police would comment but if you wore it for fast hiking/tabbing where membrane jackets soak you from the inside out or pushing through brush or gorse deer stalking with the dog then it would probably be acceptable
