Just started watching The Bridge (Bron | Broen) and everyone in it seems to chain smoke at home and at work.
Is this just gritty characterisation, or are they a region of chain smokers?

Me too, but I didn't really notice it. Had a quick google and it seems to be 20-25% of people in Sweden. Doesnt give a rate for police officers, homeless people, murderers etc

they like a bit of snus too. you see old gnarly guys with holes in their faces where it burns through their cheeks. pretty rank.
A lot of Danes do smoke, and it is allowed to smoke in bars below a certain size, so you can wander into a dense atmosphere if you're not careful !
Snus is a Swedish thing - I am obviously a milquetoast because it gave me a headache for a week 🙁

Many work colleagues in Malmo do mostly smoke - esp shop floor guys.

I've seen a teacher in a Danish school lend a kid a fag and let them pop out of a maths lesson for a fag (in Denmark)
It did feel like they all smoked
Not many swedes smoke, more Danes do.
A few swedes snus (and chain snus at that) not many Danes do.
Norway keep themselves to themselves so I don't really know about them. I'm off there tomorrow so I'll check and report back

I used to visit Copenhagen a lot as we had a customer there, I don't remember it being particularly smoky. Our main contact was a fitness freak and canoed to work!
Colleague is a Swede - vapes like a chimney, pops snus like a champ and drinks fully leaded thick black filter coffee with 2 teaspoons of sugar.
He's the most tranquil and laid back person I know, if he stopped his 'habits' he become completely sedentary!
One thing for sure, if they do all smoke then one of our politicians will start saying we all have to smoke. After all, Scandinavia seems to be the go-to model when it comes to picking policies out of a hat.
