Want to buy a present as a thank you for an old chap who volunteered a lot of time and effort on a project I've been doing in Stoke on Trent. Was thinking of something like a restaurant gift voucher for a nice meal out for him and his missus but I can't find any voucher schemes that give a good choice or coverage, and I don't know him or Stoke well enough to choose a particular venue.
Came across Tastecard which basically, for about £80 gives ever 50% off or two-for-one in a decent range or places for a year. A lot of the venues are quite affordable anyway so its not a case of him having to spend a lot to get the benefit.
But how real is the deal? Lots of places offer two-for-one anyway at certain times or on certain parts of the menu so are you paying for a deal that everyone else can get anyway? Or can you get 50% off the bill whatever you choose and whenever?
If your mate likes eating out midweek and has lots of participating restauranta nearby then it's a good idea
Can often be bought at a large discount, so if there are good local places that support it you can make your money back with just a couple of visits. Different places have different rules so you need to check (can't use on Saturday, main courses only etc).
It's a good present unless you give it to a tightarse who otherwise would not go out to eat (who will see it as costing him money).
The guy's retired so plenty of options to use it off peak. Looks like it'll do the trick then (will have a look around for offer codes first though!)
