I need 4 (ish) 1/4 turn fasteners where the combined material thickness is about 27.4mm (+ any required washers etc for the fastener).

It looks like Southco bought the Dzus brand a while ago so they are probably the brand to go to, but everything seems geared towards "contact us" for your engineering project, rather than selling a few fasteners to an individual.

Plenty of short Dzus fasteners on eBay, but they are all geared up to vehicle body work mounts.

I'm just trying to make a quick release / mount solution for a big box on my carry freedom bike trailer so I can quickly revert it to a flat bed again for carrying other stuff.

Does anyone know where I might be able to get something similar? or indeed have any better solutions?

Would something like car bonnet pins work ? They are reasonably cheap and available.

I didn't even know what quarter turn fasteners are, so Goggled them. It looks as if this seller may have what you need? The size listing in the body of the page lists them for 28mm thickness, but oddly they seem to have omitted that in the radio buttons to choose size when ordering - maybe give them a call?

@Greybeard - that's exactly the kind of thing I'm on about. Those particular ones aren't long enough as the max stud length they sell is 35mm which is for 24.5mm to 25.4mm material thickness.

@finishthat - Dzus fasteners are used for car bonnets and other panels. The just pull down nice and tight. Are you thinking about a split pin through a post? I guess that might work, I prefer the tidyness of a stud that is mostly flat-ish with the bottom of the box.

I mount a large box on my Carry Freedom by running a cam-lock compression strap under the trailer and around the box. I have circular feet screwed to the bottom of the box which locate in the four holes on the trailer base, so it's all nice and secure. Would that be an option?

I've got feet on my box as well so it's just holding it down that I need to do, just like you @kcr. My box is collapsible (whilst on the trailer) so it takes up less space when not in use. I've currently just got a couple of bolts with wing nuts, which is fine, just not quite as quick as is like for fast removal of the box.

@sam_underhill - sorry, didn't read that site carefully enough, I thought the 28mm one was for 28mm thickness. They do say they can supply custom lengths, though.

Is there any chance you could recess the back of the trailer panel to fit the spring anchor, so that a 35mm stud would fit?

I'd be a bit worried about recessing the trailer, I haven't measured, but my guess is that it's 12mm ply, taking 2mm off it might make it fragile. Food for thought certainly.
I contacted Speedy fasteners through eBay about a specific item and they used to have a 41mm version but they no longer have them. I think I need to pick their brains further to see about getting shold of something more suited to my needs.

What about boring out the base of the trailer, say 50 or 75mm for example with a hole saw.

Then on the topside (i.e immediately under the box) fit a square alloy (or stainless) plate, countersunk screw in each corner, with a hole in the centre for the 1/4 turn fastener.

You can select the thickness of the metal plate according to the length of the fastener.

Its serious rebating, but then adding strength back with the metal plate.

I wouldn’t worry about taking 2mm off round the fixings

...just not quite as quick as is like for fast removal of the box.

You can't get much faster than slinging a strap around the box and the base and pulling it tight, and you wouldn't need to machine the trailer or purchase specialist fittings.
