After not heeding the warnings about Arnold Clark being complete muppets, I need a reliable car mechanic (preferably one familiar with fiats) somewhere near Perth.

Long shot I know but you guys and gals are awesome with things like this.

My ex got on well with a mechanic based (IIRC) behind Bannermans Decorators on Dunkeld Rd in Perth, just further out from the retail park where TK Maxx is. Google Streetview suggests the name is TT F1 Mechanics (or Garage). They were good and when they did screw up once they were totally up front, open and apologetic about it. A few years ago so not sure if this is still true.
She also went to a guy in the industrial estate in Almondbank. He was a useless muppet

I got some electrical work done at Alistair Reid on Whitefriar St just over a year ago. My local garage couldn't do it so sent me there, and there were professional and efficient and didn't rip me off.

I had an Alfa Romeo a few years back....CP Garage services in Dundee were fantastic.

Alfa and Fiat are the same family are they not?

Avoid Alistair Reid like the plague.

They quoted £400 to change the rear discs on my van (just discs, no pads). £200 parts and £200 labour. I bought the discs from Euro Car Parts for £60 and did it myself in under an hour on the drive.

The gearbox cables seized and they wanted £3600 to replace the whole gearbox. A guy in Dundee did it with a 12 month warranty for £300.

I use Spittalfield garage (between Dunkeld and Blairgowrie) and he is fine. Reasonable prices, good quality work, very honest and often does small jobs for free. But we do have 2 old cars which need a fair bit of attention so we might get a regulars discount!
