Random thought struck me...every car has a glovebox, but I've never seen a glove near one...

I have two gloveboxes and a top compartment. The latter has a pair of gloves in. Does that count?

Yes, in my glove box I have:

box of nitrile gloves, some heavy duty site gloves, ear defenders, ffp3 respirator, safety glasses.

Emergency bag of sweets

Mind you in the back I have:

Demolition saw, bone saws, 4ft wrecking bar, duct tape, disposable overalls  3 ft bolt croppers and special bags.

If I ever get a random stop and search they are going to think I'm a serial killer

If it was only one bone saw, you'd have been fine. It's the details that will get you caught in the end.

You’re just missing the bag of quick lime, cable ties and suspicious looking old frayed rope.

My glove box has some cough sweets and an empty glasses case in it.

As with most things in life, ask yourself ‘what would Alan do?’

I keep my driving gloves in mine…

Sometimes. Mostly when it's cold.

Fascinating anecdote, I know.

They’re going to think that well before they look in the back though, aren’t they? 😄😙

I’ve honestly never been cold enough in a car to need gloves. I can see why they were needed back when you passed your test Cougar. With that man walking in front waving a flag 😉

Yes.

I'll also tell you that if your car won't start, and it's -5 and snowing a treat you will get very cold in a car far faster than you ever imagine so I also have a sleeping bag sometimes

If my car won’t start I’m either on my driveway or at work. Not getting very cold in either scenario tbh. Plus I have pockets that I keep in my garments.

No gloves in my car, but I do have sunglasses in my sunglasses box, unlike it seems, most other people who'd rather squint into bright sunlight with their vision half obscured by a visor. Not that I'm judging (idiots).

At the moment, I’ve got a pair of Muckboots, plus a pair of shorter Meindle Canadian boots, which are easier to put on if I’m only paddling around in the swamp that is where our archery club cabin is - there’s a brook runs along one side, and a drainage ditch from the field behind that feeds into the brook. Judging by the forecast for the coming weekend, it ain’t draining away any time soon… ☔️🌧️🌊🚣‍♂️🙁

Oh, and 🎩 to those who got in quick with the Death Cab For Cutie reference, I love that album, it was 6Music playing it, along with bands like Stars, The Postal Service, Pretty Girls Make Graves, Black Mountain, The Dears and others that opened my eyes to the wealth of talent that Canada has.

I occasionally have some speeding on my speedometer, does that count?

There's a substantial spare tyre too, but we won't go into that

Nothing moving about on my scuttle either. Although I did have something living under the scuttle in our motorhome, whatever it was had very acidic urine as I had to have some welding done!

No, but I've had a few cars with them, very similar to this un. They were so much more efficient than door mirrors!

I have gloves and a beanie, amongst other stuff. I haven’t used them since getting an EV with pre-heating and a heated wheel !

Haven't used the scraper either, even in recent minus 7 mornings 🤪

I thought you were joking as I read that, you'd be put on a few different watch lists for that lot 😀

There's no room for gloves in my glovebox, so I have a couple of pairs on the middle seat (van) and more in a box in the rear footwell with my emergency bike clothes).

My wife thinks our car has a trunk and a hood. It's neither an elephant, or little and red.

Gloves (workwear, warm fleecy and nitrile), beanie.
Some old wellies in the boot/trunk along with two snow shovels, long handled ice scraper and a set of snow chains, a tow rope, some snow mats and a fire extinguisher.
Except the ex has the chains and rope right now. I'll get them back tomorrow.

All except the extinguisher have been used.

It was also 22 degrees below zero this morning and we have near enough 40 cm of snow and another 20-30 forecast over the next 24 hours. It's also likely to get colder.

I once stopped at a police roadside check - a walk round the van to check lights are working, brief conversation about what I do, where I'm going to and from - all fine. Then they asked if I minded if they have a look in the back.

I had a burnt corpse and severed head.

I very much have! Used to have an old MGB GT as my only car - lived in the highlands and the car was both inexplicably drafty - cold air seemed to just pass through the front of the car and into the footwells - and the heater / fan was just pathetic. On long drives up and down the A9 to see my girlfriend at weekends I didnt really bother to pack a bag - I'd just put all my cloths on - to pairs of trousers, 3 t-shirts etc, coat, hat and ski mitts.

When I get to a petrol station with a supply of those thin plastic gloves, I stock up - hate handling dirty, greasy fuel pumps without them. so, yes, gloves in the glove box 😇

FWIW, i have remote pre heating, heated steering wheel (and seats) and STILL have gloves in the car.
It's sometimes cold enough that even after 20 mins of preheat the glass is cold enough that any moisture that touches it freezes. So you (may) have to get out and scrape again. Not doing that at 20 below without gloves...

Yep, I get cold hands and so getting into the car on a cold day means gloves get worn until the car heats up. So yes, I have gloves in the glovebox.

You're the reason my local petrol station has a sign up saying that if you want gloves, ask the attendant. (Like any forecourts have had an attendant this millennium.)

I`ve got gloves in mine (well- one of my vans). those buildery type ones to put on when i need to fill up oil/hit it with a hammer. (1972 vw t2)

i could have done with remembering the gloves while driving it last night (or i need to work out how to get my 2kw chinese heater to pump out more heat).

I’m sure I’ve got a couple of pairs of heavy duty nitrile gloves in the glovebox, for emergencies involving anything that’s wet and dirty, but fortunately I’ve not needed to use them. Having written that, maybe I ought to check them sometime soon, just to make sure they haven’t perished - they’ve been in there for at least a couple of years. <br />They’re thicker orange ones, with textured fingers we were issued for debowsing car fuel tanks for Enterprise; anything with over 1/4 tank had to have the excess removed, and stored for later collection and refining. Of course nobody helped themselves to handfuls of gloves, just in case, like…

My Glovebox has a silly big can of windscreen de-icer in it, it's there so it won't roll about inside the car, gloves don't roll and are needed more often so they get to live in the driver's door pocket...

gloves don’t roll

*nods sagely at this statement of timeless truth*

and are needed more often

Needed for what? Gloves for me are one of those things like biros where you suspect there's a breeding ground or similar somewhere they congregate and conjugate, possibly the Sargasso Sea, but not the g love box.

That said I don't know what is actually in there. How would I know/care? I'm going to guess random shite. And headlamp bulbs for france. Hth
