Got an ingrowing toenail, which has gone a bit septic, no doubt due to my own efforts to treat it with my Swiss army knife. (I've already had a bollocking about that so don't need another). I've waited a couple of weeks to see if it would clear up of its own accord but it hasn't.

I'm also struggling with plantar fasciitis or something like it causing severe heel pain for the last six months.

Should I go to the GP or the podiatrist for these?

Yes, I thought about that. So far I've given up flip flops and not much else.

A good podiatrist will remove the nail properly and make sure it is all out. They might then tell you to get to the GP for a prescription to clear up any infection...

If it is septic - see a GP, and do not, repeat do not cut the nail any more for the moment. Most of the problems we see are due to people cutting them too short and then cutting the infected side at an angle.

Heel pain - if under the sole of the heel - gel pads and exercises first. Podiatrist next

Heel pain, don't muck around. Get specialist advice, not from the internet.

I've been suffering from plantar fasciitis for over a year now and wish I'd gone to the right place straight off (the right place being the Sports Injury Clinic at the Royal Orthopaedic in Birmingham).

Check with your GP as you may be able to refer yourself directly to an NHS Podiatrist, due to budgets you may be waiting a while though.

It may be worth getting a private podiatrist if it is impacting on your activities, they will be able to prescribe antibiotics and carry out the nail surgery in your home if properly trained and qualified, if it comes to that. They will also be able to sort your plantar fasciitis. Expect to pay £25-£35 for an initial assessment and advice.

The flippant answer is get DIYing, the sensible one being that a decent podiatrist should be able to sort you out with no issues.

I have 4 nails scheduled for permanent removal in December 😀

Cheers, Rich
