Spent the day yesterday working in the garden (filled two 8yd skips with fences, tree roots, hedges etc - so quite some stuff shifted).

During the afternoon my right wrist started to lose strength and I couldn't grip properly. I hobbled on and got most of what I wanted done. This morning it still hurt but as the day has gone on the pain has got worse and worse (barely able to grip a nappy hard enough to put it on my daughter). I can lift okay, it's just the gripping/twisting that is incredibly painful.

I have lathered it in that muscle gel but that isn't working - I THINK it is some kind of tendinitis (it sometimes flares up on a long day riding but never like this). But it is also swollen so paranoia is saying I have done something worse.

So - do I waste the docs time or just dose up on painkillers?

Sounds like tendinitis which does tickle, anti-inflamtories, pain killers and rest but keep it moving gently too. If it becomes very painful then walk in centre or minor injuries unit.

For some reason i read that as

My advice would have been to change hands. 😉

I would give it a couple of days rest and see how it is. If no better, see your GP.

Could be carpal tunnel irritated by repetitive and loaded tasks.

Try max dose over the counter ibuprofen (400mg) and get some decent pain killers (8mg codeine / 500mg paracetamol) and rest the affected wrist.

Give it a few days and if it doesn't improve / resolve then go see your GP.

Doesn't say anything about not drinking on the packet. It does say I will be an addict if I take them for more than three days though! 😮

From the NHS site...
[i]Taking opioid painkillers can cause drowsiness and hypotension (low blood pressure), and drinking alcohol while taking them will increase these effects. If you're affected, do not drink any alcohol while taking opioid painkillers.

Coedine and alcohol is not a great idea but can have a rather nice effect.

Just been to the Docs - I have De Quervais Tenosynovitis. Or 'Washer woman's wrist'.

Ibuprofen, rest and pray I don't need to have a cortizone injection was his recommendation.

Nice
