Seeing as it's my birthday. I'll nip to the bakers, but they really only have two offerings of note; a vanilla slice the size of a housebrick or an egg custard the size of a small bucket. Both are excellent.

Stick your orders in.

Tough call, but egg custard edges it for me.

Happy birthday, also.

Not sure I could manage a whole one but I'll share a vanilla slice with someone.

Also, happy birthday!

Mmm yes please, though if you're going to Atkinsons/Tesadales I'll have a Yorkshire Curd Tart.

Happy birthday, vanilla slice please (aka the most stupidly designed pastry ever).

If the vanilla slice has about 5mm of super sweet icing on top then that's the one for me. I'll have 2. Happy birthday mate.

Egg custard is better, vanilla slice is usually bigger... so vanilla slice wins, but if these egg custards are huge I'll go for that.

Happy birthday 🎂

No thank you though, I'm on a diet. The clothes are getting critical. Actually, I will have one. Vanilla slice please. Er, no, egg custard. No, vanilla slice! Argh! I'm gonna have to go and find a bakers when I get to Boston later...

Vanilla slice all day. The trick is to bite it side on so it retains its structure. #gamechanger

Happy birthday.

Vanilla slice please. Try not to leave any thumb prints on it this time.

Proper Pastel de Nata egg custard please. Or a vanilla slice. I'm probably the ONLY person who cuts my slices to eat smaller portions; turn them on their side for max rigidity.

Happy Birthday!

Vanilla slice, egg custard is foul. So much for the diet, big question is, is it a milestone birthday or just an inbetween?

Happy Birthday.

Mmmm, tough call especially if from the Whaley Bake House.

I'll go halves on one of each with some one. (now filtering off into a daydream of coffee and cake at the weekend)

I've just had doughnuts from work to mark 1 year working from home. But I'll squeeze in an egg custard, thanks.

EDIT: Happy birthday (manners)

Nope, Disley bakers.

Try not to leave any thumb prints on it this time.

You said you like it when I squeezed it hard 🙁

And as for 'is it a milestone birthday', if the milestone says 47, then yeah

Many happy returns. On such a special occasion it has to be the Vanilla Slice. Just feels like it more. Custard tarts are just as delicious and less of a mess to eat but just not special enough for a birthday!

You really do owe this thread pics of said items of confectionary, at least 🙂

Happy birthday!

If it was me buying, the response would be "what do you mean "or"?"

But if I must cut down - and I really must - an egg custard please.

If it’s a choice of one of the other, I’ll take the slice.
But realistically I’d have both.

Genuinely, I bet you'd struggle. I've had a whole egg custard to myself before now and, well, I wasn't having anything after it. I bet they hold a pint of custard.

Never an egg custard. I used to work with a woman who would take her false teeth out before eating her morning egg custard in the staff canteen some 35 years ago. The sight of that still haunts me.

Surely both if it's your birthday?
Pedal a little faster if it needs to be calorie-neutral.

@welshfarmer Askews in Crick' for your Vanilla slice? I'm quite a fan of their donuts.

Vanilla slice , please.
As long as it is the custards type filing - not the huge wodge of cream ...
Happy birthday

if their custard slice is the size of a house brick, do they do any sort of millionaires shortbread? By the sounds of it, one that gives instant diabetes? If so, ill take one. Otherwise i will stick to the custard slice. Unless they do cheese straws.....

Anywho, happy birthday.

I’ve just doubled dropped two M&S slices. It was too messy to slide the tray back in the little box, honest

You cut I'll pick or I'll cut you pick. (stopped all arguments in our house as a kid, when it came to getting the bigger slice of pie)
