Vet commented that our 6 year old Sith hounds teeth were as good as our three year old Sith houndettes teeth due to them both being on the raw diet.

As the two others above, both of ours are on raw diet so no need for dentistix or anything like that. Cleft lip/palate pup's breath stinks but that's common with clefties apparently.

Never brushed my girls and they always had good teeth. I fed them cooked food (better than cooking for one) veg and fruit. Bones were always cooked.
They would run a mile if i offered them raw meat

As MTM says, raw diet keeps the dogs teeth spotless. My border collie was getting mucky teeth and breath was beginning to smell at 5 years old, changed diet to raw and within 4 weeks teeth were clean and no more dog breath. Now 7 years old and teeth still spotless.

People using raw diet, are you using a product like Natural Instinct etc or making your own up? Thinking about making the jump here, biggest reservations are cost and freezer space.

We use Natures harvest frozen raw meat as it contains meat, fat and bone. Then add in raw frozen mixed veg and leave to defrost.
As our Border Terrier is still a puppy we add a small handful of puppy kibble to the top.

We buy one bag of meat and one of frozen veg at a time so it doesn't take up too much room. We then make up 2 days worth at a time in tupperware boxes and leave them in the fridge.

It doesn't smell and IMO is the best diet as it's what dogs evolved to eat.

Trying to brush my dogs teeth was as easy as nailing diarrhoea to a tree

Cost wise RAW is about the same for normal food, we actually save a bit as Chewie was on v expensive hypoallergenic stuff as he's allergic to food storage mite(vac packs/freezing etc, royal pain).

You will need freezer space, we've got a small chest freezer in the shed as dog food freezer. We get stuff from local butcher, ground up leftovers I think, as well as natures path stuff. Keep the mix varied and don't forget vegetable bits as well. We also use a wholesaler type place near Gatwick which is working out slightly cheaper.

Also prepare/start defrosting tomorrow's meal after you've dished out today's meal.

You also become an expert on No.2 analysis.........(usually its they need a bit more vegetable matter)

Watching Ahsoka demolish a chicken carcass was stomach churning but she loved it. Chewie when first introduced to raw picked the chicken wings out of the bowl spat them on the floor and gave Mrs M a proper Peter Kay look of "What do you call this rubbish? Where's me biscuits. I'm not eating this.....ITS NOT COOKED!"

I feed mainly chicken wings straight from the freezer, if I defrost them they tend to get swallowed whole. When frozen it takes her longer to crunch them up. Throw in a raw carrot, raw cabbage stalks and broccoli. Get the advantage of hard white dog poo to clear up too.

Only cooked bones are bad, they splinter, raw bones are fine.
