Question as per title really. Do they work well? I assume you are limited to one length of hair all over.

Got one. Prefer the clippers.

Pair of clippers, same as in the barbers, plus a pair of mirrors (one handheld for looking at the back), the other one just has to be visible from where you are cutting.

I have a wahl super taper. It feels very solid and seems to work.

I do mine in the bath, easiest to clear up.

A wife who can tell you if you missed bits is handy(or shave it for you if she has time, is slightly quicker for someone else to do it)

,Y esone length all over, unless you are very skilled.

Why not just stick a basin on your head and cut around it?

Really, is it that hard to go to the barbers once a month?

I hadn't thought of that, you're right. I did some research. There are places, a bit like shops, where I can pay a man to cut my hair!!! Why didn't I think of this before?!!

😐

What, waste an hour or so going out, waiting, getting your hair cut and coming home, versus 10 minutes with the clippers once every couple of weeks? And pay £20 a time for it, when clippers cost £30-£40?

Basically, it's quicker, cheaper, you don't have to talk about your holidays / football or whatever, and the end result is the same. I'd do it for the same reason I don't pay someone to mend punctures on my bike.

I do my own with clippers. To trim the fluffy hairs on my neck I either get Mrs Grips to go over it with the clippers, or I use a Gillette and do it by feel - doesn't give a straight edge so is non critical.

Yes. Spend a chunk of your Saturday morning waiting around for a cut or take time off work, when at home it's a 10 minute job no more difficult than shaving.

and the end result is the same

Actually it's frequently worse, because I know in detail all the various techniques and gotchas that apply to my head, and many hairdressers don't. I'm reasonably bald but I have a double crown* and the hair that's left is incredibly fine, so you really have to work to get all the stragglers.

* more like a double half-crown now.

The round one? no, it was sh1t. GF now has some phillips (I think?) clippers where you can alter the angle of the clipper head so you can easily do all over, these work really well. much less stressful than when I used to do it for him.

£20 a time! My barber's £8 a time and I resent that much 🙂
