Hi all

Looking at buying a blu-ray player and currently have an LG LED TV. is there any reason why I should buy an LG player rather than any other brand?

Cheers

You might get away with only using a single remote for both the TV and Player. That's about the only argument for that I can think of and it's a fairly weak one at that.

No, but would check to see that the TV remote can communicate with the player, from experience, Samsung Anynet & Panasonic Vieralink will talk to each other and to Toshiba as well. No experence of LG thou.

Nope.

If you have a PS3 use that.

No.

Historically, manufacturers came up with various interoperability 'standards' to make their VCRs talk to their TVs.

These days they're still doing it and you'll see "Regza Link" and "Viera Link" and some such (LG call it SimpLink or something similar), but in the HDMI world they're all brand names for the same technology ("CEC") and are all cross-compatible.

My Sony blu-ray remote operates some of the functions on my Toshiba TV.

HDMI carries these signals too; gone are the days of entering four-digit manufacturer codes by trial and error. You can pick up any remote in my house and it Just Works, it's really slick. Press 'volume' when the amp's off and it'll control the TV volume; switch the amp on and it automatically mutes the TV, and all remotes then control the amp volume instead. Toshiba TV, Sony Blu-ray, Yamaha amp, Sky HD box.

It's the future, I've seen it.
