You don't need to be an 'investor' to invest in Singletrack: 6 days left: 95% of target - Find out more
Because I have more of these than I do bands. I'll start with a couple...
Sasha in his early heyday, playing his piano stuff.
Only ever saw him at a very crowded Soundshaft (the Drum Club on a Thursday night) but the refreshments were a bit suspect and I spent the night feeling woozy and confused about why the mixing sounded so different to the usual DJs.
Also, he was playing a more moody, tech-y set than he would have up north.
Weatherall playing a party set back in the day, and again in the last decade sometime.
Saw him at the Drum Club as well, but he was playing an abrasive techno set with what sounded like Andean nose flutes. Bombed a bit IIRC.
Bruno Brookes
Jimmy Saville.
Has to be the Hairy Cornflake doing the Radio 1 Roadshow
I saw Diddy David Hamilton playing football on White Knobs playing field.
Photek
I've seen pretty much all the DJ's I want but there's a few nights I have missed that I would have loved to have gone to. My friends went to The Orbit in Morley - we were all meant to be going for a friend's birthday, got to Leeds and the birthdayee dropped out last minute so I stayed back at a friend's house with him.
Thomas Krome and Sven Vath as well. Bitter to this day and haven't let the birthdayee ever forget it.
Dave Clarke played an electro set at Remedy in Sheffield and I didn't go and apprently it was a stonker and I missed a 6 hour Akrika Bambaata set kicking off downstairs in a club whilst I was listening to mediocre hard house upstairs.
I did get to see Weatherall twice and the first time was by chance in a stonking little club in Cologne. Totally blew the place apart, really an excellent night.
That's about it really but then I have been doing the scene for far longer than I care to think about...
Dubfire
Justice
Satoshi Tomie
3 that spring to mind.
@vongassit - saw Justice live, was epic :). Dubfire as an individual or as part of Deep Dish?
Oh and I've not seen Westbam. Would love to see him one day...
You should really edit the title to say ‘that you wish can remember seeing because you were off your box ‘
My fave DJ is Mauro risotto. I saw him a couple of times in his heyday but missed the third time as the imboliser on my car stopped working and I didn't fancy leaving my car in the area of the club. Bit gutted about that one.
Tony de Vit. I may have seen him at a Sundissential night once but clearly can’t remember.
Green velvet. The time he was due to play at pressure. We were only told his flight had been cancelled, as we got close to the front of that a
God almighty horrendous queue at the Arches. Must have been 2001 or 2. Saw him play as cajmere but just not the same.
More recently equinoxx at optimo 20th birthday bash two years ago. Was busy watching a DJ in one of the other rooms and apparently their set was incredible.
My friends went to The Orbit in Morley – we were all meant to be going for a friend’s birthday, got to Leeds and the birthdayee dropped out last minute so I stayed back at a friend’s house with him.
Thomas Krome and Sven Vath as well. Bitter to this day and haven’t let the birthdayee ever forget it.
The Orbit was legendary, some of the best nights ever there including Dave Clark, Robert Hood, Jeff Mills. Saw Sven Vath there too and he was a bit crap to be honest. Seem to remember it was in his peak alcoholic phase and he was ****ted and couldn’t mix for toffee.
Only saw Laurent Garnier once and would loved to have seen him more. He was bloody brilliant.
So in answer to the OP, can’t really remember any that I’d wanted to see that I didn’t get the chance.
@dannybgoode Both I suppose , Deepdish are ace but dubfire remixes more often than not are superb & a wee bit different.
Was Lucky enough to see Daft Punk in 2007 & it was epic! Other highlights were Timo Mas playing a 5 hr set in a small club & a bangin sound system & still very much in the honeymoon period 😀
Morillo doing a more techno type 6hr set in Glasgow's arches in 2002 I think. Faithless forever Faithless tour in the SSC , wicked. Lot's of others but these stand out.
I used to be a regular at Pure up until '95 and they had many guest djs over the years, I don't think I missed a single one. I'd love to have seen Andrew Weatherall play again but my favourites are Green Velvet/Cajmere and JD Twitch, he's been doing some lockdown stuff on SoundCloud. If you're feeling a bit reminiscent he curated the soundtrack to Beats.
@faerie Pure was great. I played with Brainstorm one night a long time ago and if my memory is right Billy Nasty came on after.
Club 69 and the earlier days of the Rhumba Club were also epic Scottish clubbing!
I think i've seen the majority of my favourite DJ's lots of times.
What I'd like to do would be to go back further and hear Larry Levan etc in their heyday.
Russ Winstanley. 🙂
Was lucky enough to see Sasha at the Hacienda a good few times, but he moved on quite quickly.
Tbh, I had no idea who he was at the time, just another DJ.....🙂 I was more impressed with the guy playing bongos on the stage......
My favourite is David Morales and I've been lucky enough to see him a good few times over the years.
Pickering, Park, Massey etc still hold a lot of great memories but very much of their time - I have seen some of them recently, but the vibe was very different and I struggled a bit.....
I do miss the Thunderdome with Jay and Kath, Konspiracy and the Kitchen in Hulme, but I suspect it would all scare the gravy out of me if I went back in time.....
I was the bloke with the blue Dangermouse T Shirt and the tall, fat ginger mate who used to drink poppers and get his knob out in the strobe lights if anyone remembers......
Sasha was the one that sprung to mind as soon as I read the title. Definitely never saw him, at least 90% sure of it. I can think of many others, but in all honesty I may well have seen them but can’t really remember.
@tuboflard. I must have spent every Saturday night for at least 5 years in Orbit. I have to say that the best DJ i saw there was Ritchie Hawtin.... Aphex twin was a close second. I too saw Sven vath a few times therebut can't remember much tbh I was away with the fairies.lol. One DJ I would have loved to see would be Felix da house cat.
This thread needs Binners btw.
He might, might be able to remember a few more names, if the synapses have rerouted themselves correctly yet......
@ifindoubtflatout that’s good going. Not sure my constitution could have survived a weekly streak like that! Went a lot, but not that much. Remember seeing Richie Hawtin there though. We used to drive over from Bradford with IanV previously of this parish (RIP) in his Clio 16v. Miss those days.
Green Velvet
Ritchie Hawtin
Rusty - I’ve seen absolutely everybody
Can’t remember any of it
Just as it should be 😃
Best nights ever were Darren Emersons and Justin Robertson’s Thursday nights at Paradise Factory.
It went sort of under the radar but you look at the line ups now and it’s mental!

Ritchie Hawtin
Worst night I've ever been to. Was a long time ago, late 90s at the New Ardri in hulme in Manc. He played the most self indulgent plodding minimal bollox and emptied the dance floor in 10 mins just after everyone had dropped their pills in anticipation 🙂
Justin Robertson
You should come down the Golden Lion when it reopens, all these old gits play there regularly. Apart from Weatherall now for very sad and obvious reasons.
I've done much better with DJs than with bands. I often seem to miss the bands I want to see, but through luck I got to experience a lot of DJs and raves at the right time. I went to Shoom when Danny Rampling was playing, I saw Fatboy Slim on Brighton Beach, I was at Castlemorton, I've seen Grandmaster Flash and Afrika Bambaataa (I know we don't talk about him any more, but he was ace), John Digweed, Jah Shaka, Lee 'Scratch' Perry (that was an experience), Terminator X, Sasha ...
The one I cannot remember seeing is Paul Oakenfold. I mean I must have been there when he was playing at some point, but I simply cannot recall it.
The live Hacienda stream the other day proved the most overrated DJ ever...
Graeme Park
Guaranteed to bore the tits off everyone on a Saturday night. Fridays were the decent nights at the Hac. Marshall Jefferson, Derek May, Carl Cox, Oakenfold, Weatherall, Sasha. A lot harder than Saturdays
Saturdays were overrated and far too handbag
I'd like to see DJ Harvey.
"You can't understand the blues until you've had your heart broken by a woman. And you can't understand DISCO until you've had group sex on Ecstasy."
Lisa lashes was brilliant when I was visiting Birmingham.my other friends weren't really dance fans and wanted to leave after a couple of hours. They were very boring. The place was banging and no doubt it would have been a cracking night when other DJ played. Same happened a few weeks later at God's kitchen I think
I used to warm up for Sasha at Oz in Blackpool & a good friend of mine was his manager during that whole era he was fantastic but so was that era.
Seen Russ Winstanley & many others from that era & pre ‘acid’ Colin Curtis Mike Shaft Ian Levine Chad Jackson Greg Wilson.
I was lucky enough to work in the industry from 89-mid 2000s inc doing the PR for DMC world finals for a number of years so seen Skratch Piklz X Men, Craze, Enforcers (Pogo Swift)etc.
Two of the best (club DJs) I’ve ever seen are Shortee Blitz & EZ their mixing & blending skills & control of an audience were insanely good. I’ve seen some awful DJs as well that had ‘reputations’
Andy C has to be seen but not sure if he’s using records anymore as well as DJ Hype & used to see Bukem at Speed @ all the Metalheadz lot @ the Blue Note.
Jeff Mills Claude Young Masters at Work Frankie Knuckles Danny Tenaglia Coldcut DJ Food all exceptional.
Never saw Funkmaster Flex but the DJs I wish I had seen are the obvious icons - Larry Leven @ the Paradise Garage, Ron Hardy @ The Music Box, Roy Thode Tom Moulton etc @ Fire Island & Daniele Baldeli @ Cosmic & Baia
On a slightly different musical vibe, but despite going to drum and bass nights for many years I've never seen Calibre play.
I have seen every DJ I’ve wanted to, I spent about 15 years of my life travelling the globe just to see sets. God I miss it!
Sundissential
Love that place, Madders, what a nutter! Sundissential North at Evolution in Leeds, legendary nights out.
Still have my SS membership card in my wallet.
Was anyone on here on Gurn.net?
Dag.
Wish also I'd got to more Boys' Own nights. But there weren't many of them down in Dorset.
shout out to the junglist soldiers at Metalheadz sunday sessions at the blue note hoxton square. . I was 17 🙂

"Only saw Laurent Garnier once and would loved to have seen him more. He was bloody brilliant."
He had a regular residency in the back room at Club UK - 8 hour sets on occasion!!! One of my favourite clubbing memories was catching a pitched up "Da Funk" emmanating from the room and thinking, WTAF is that, and knowing it would be Garnier 😉
The description of Ritchie Hawtin above doesn't match my experiences, loved seeing him live. Mind - if you go to see him and are surprised he's playing minimal techno ???
"Tony de Vit. I may have seen him at a Sundissential night once but clearly can’t remember."
Sundissential was a day out, not a night out (that was the night before). Mr Egg for tea afterwards.
Pretty sure I saw TDV there, or some other venue (probably more than once) in Birmingham in the late 90s. Club scene whist I was at Uni there was amazing so managed to see most of the DJs I wanted to at one time or another.
Actually, can't remember seeing DJ Hype live (though may have), so I'll settle on him.
The description of Ritchie Hawtin above doesn’t match my experiences, loved seeing him live. Mind – if you go to see him and are surprised he’s playing minimal techno ???
Depends when. I was in the club for this set - https://soundcloud.com/jamiedmusic/essential-mix-2001-richie - and i'd have been very surprised if he'd played a minimal set!
The only people I've never seen play, and wish I had, are the early US guys - Derrick May, Carl Craig, Kevin Saunderson etc. I started raving in about '99 so I caught a few people like Jeff Mills, Kenny Dope and Felix Da Housecat, but not everyone...
Saw Derrick May BITD, also at Drum Club, and I wish I'd had the nerve to say hi when he was standing outside the booth in his turtleneck looking cool. He was good too, very individual style and obviously it went off when he played Strings of Life.
Saw Carl Craig about 12 years ago at Benicassim, was a bit disappointing TBH.
Yes would have been good to see Kevin Saunderson and also Juan Atkins, their styles are more up my street anyway.
I’ve seen the Belleville 3 & Carl Craig, significantly better producers than DJs especially Carl Craig. If you’ve seen Jeff Mills you’ve nailed it IMHO. I managed to see virtually all of them inc Aux 88 & Drexciya during a secret night Fat Cat records put on in Camden before Kraftwerk did Tribal Gathering - they’d all come from Detroit to see them.
Lived in South London in the early '90s and spent a lot of time at places like Lost, ClubUK, Sabresonic,Ministry (Open all Hours), Bagley's and The Cross.
Real cross section of DJs, but favourites were Jeff Mills at Lost and Dave Clark at Sabresonic.
Would like to have seen Armand Van Helden
Ah, Fat Cat records! Magic place.
👍
Alex Knight & Dave Cawley still run Fat Cat records the label down in Brighton - Dave discovered Sigur Ros & Animal Collective, Lee Grainge got into films, John Reynolds became a postman last I heard & sadly James Dyer who went on to run J Saul Kane’s DC label passed about 3 yrs back to Cancer.
I’ve seen most who I’ve wanted to see, and like above I probably saw TDV at Sundissential but can’t remember
However, I wish I could’ve seen Marshall Jefferson, Derek May, Carl Cox, Oakenfold, Weatherall, and Sasha at the Hac.
Fatboy Slim on Brighton Beach
And if I could wave a magic wand I would love to go back and be there for
Rampling, Oakenfold, Holloway, Alfredo in Ibiza 1988-1991
Richie Kaczor and Nicky Siano at Studio 54 1977-1980
Larry Levan, Ron Hardy and Frankie Knuckles at the Paradise Garage 1977
Frankie Knuckles at the Warehouse 1977-1983
The Sasha at The Hacienda thing is a bit of a myth, the main DJs there during 88-89 years were Pickering, Park, Jon Da Silva & on the odd occasion Laurent Garnier. There was also the legendary night that Colin Faver came up & played. Sasha really made his name later at Shelleys in Stoke.
There were 3 other Manchester DJs that never really get mentioned during that era that I’m sure by the sounds of it Rusty Spanner will remember - DJ Nipper, Jay Wearden & Steve Williams all played at the Thunderdome alongside The Spinmasters (808 State’s Darren & Andy).
Oh and I’ve not seen Westbam. Would love to see him one day…
I *think* I saw him at a Mayday party on NYE in Berlin, '91. He was certainly on the bill but it was all a bit chaotic.
Que Club - coffee at Maccies on the ramp- West End Bar - Sundissential
Funnily enough, only time I went to Orbit was to see Sven Vath, we went to the Spacehopper allnighter at Que then drove up to Leeds for the Orbit on the sat. Messy.
Best night ever of my life as TdV at Que.
Most memorable was seeing Dave Clarke spin techno with MC Ribbz doing his thing over the top. Access was a big tune that night....
I was thinking of Sasha at Shelley's, yeah.
We felt like we had it all in London then, and it could often be great, but I regret not making more effort to check out the regional scenes.
Not sure about Sundissential though.
Thought I'd check out Kevin's DJ style after the discussion above, he's bloody good actually...
Cracking mix!
Nobody's mentioned Singletrack's very own 'Making Up the Numbers' George Thompson 😀
Access was a big tune that night….
That was one of the anthems at Sex, Love & Motion at the Soundshaft, my regular early/mid 90s weekend haunt.
Along with Narcotic Influence & Positive Education.
Not many bigger tunes out there than Access, full stop.
