Internal plaster wall. It was papered but we now want to paint it. The metal strips at the edge of the wall are 'buckled' and I'm unsure as to how I go about making good before painting.
It is not just a case of sticking the metal strip back to the wall as it almost appears too long for the wall now i.e. it seems to have been stretched. Obviously taken a whack in the past.
Any ideas?

you could do it properly by taking the whole edging bead out, fitting a new one and make good with some new multifinish plaster, or just hacksaw out the blown section and rebuild with some filler and a bit of patience.
Aye, but that's blown out cos it's damp, surely. Cos, er, metal expands when it's damp (what am I saying??)
If it gets lots of knocks it will split the tape,as they are crap.If you remove it you will have to replace it with another tape or you will struggle to get a sharp arrice (edge) I am an ex plasterer.
Looks like its been bashed once or twice, as stoner says rip it all off some new gyproc metal corner tape and feather in with new filler.
Search on you choobe for videos how to do, or get a man in to do if not confident. As you are going to be painting it needs to be smooth.
Taping and jointing. Just hate it. Nice weedy paper /metal corner trim. Durability - zippo.
Have the same issue by my front door from the dogs and going to cover it with some anodised angle trim. Just not man enough for the job.
Thanks for the replies - will probably try the hacksaw method...then call the plasterer!
Just used that British Gypsum external corner tape in my kitchen, boxing in the soil stack. Very easy to use. leaves a very sharp corner though, but wont get damaged where I've used it. Wouldn't use it in the OP's location though.
Cut out the blown bit. Glue a new corner bead from top to bottom then skim everything.
I fixed exactly that by hacksawing strip at middle of bulge (Dremmel/power saw would be so much better), lifting strip a little each way, raking out below strip, filling with plaster below and above and skimming top/side with a wet flat butter knife and then fixed it in position by leaning a stepladder with bricks on against the 'bulge' for about a day then skim/sand that 'into' rest next day
If you aren't going to redo the whole thing then I believe you can just cut out the section as already suggested. Then to get a good edge screw a bit of board to one wall so that it overhangs the edge and then plaster the other side of the wall up to the board. Once dry remove the board and plaster where the board was.
Bit of a pain though
Thanks again for the tips above, used this as an excuse to but the Dremmel I've always wanted! Cut out the offending section of the strip and used the solid block to form as edge idea! Still 'in progress' but should sort it.
