We're currently repainting our kitchen and now we've painted the walls so they look super clean the tiles just look dirty.

Is tile paint any good? Or would it be easier to re-tile?

I've never seen it look good. But that maybe because i haven't noticed they're painted when its done well.

Looks great when done professionally - until any metal utensil or pan touches it at which point it scratches and you have to repaint that tile, then the one next to it, then that wall, then the other walls, then you either kill yourself or re-tile.

It's crap. I did a cheapo "refresh" in the bathroom which looked OK for a week or so.

You need to prepare the tiles properly and it can be scratched by metal implements. I did our downstairs loo 12 years ago and it still looks fine. Did the main bathroom at the same time and it needed redoing after about 8 years.

Just re-tile is the answer. Or re-grout?

Have you tried proper clean of the tiles and grout?

Mix some bicarbonate of soda with bleach to make a paste in a jar, brush it on to the grout with an old toothbush and leave for an hour (or as longer). Wash off with water. You can do the same with the tile surface, slowly scrubbing the paste on. Leave it then wash off with water.

FWIW a mate painted there bathroom tiles and it looked ok
