I need to treat my loft joists and rafters...I found a water based Boron treatment that is much safer to apply with a simple dust mask/gloves, the alternative is Permethrin which is a toxic insecticide
Various places selling Boron based 'ready to apply' 5L and 25L containers. However, it works out much cheaper to buy the powder and premix it, I'm just a bit cautious as all the sellers and recommendations for the powder (Boron Ultra 12) seem to be the same seller.
Just thought I'd ask the masses before dropping £100 (I'll propably need another to finish the job) on 2.5kg of magic powder which makes up 62 litres...presumably everyone selling premixed treatment is just making up a 5% solution using the same powder...
Anyone know much about it?
I've used this and other products from Sovereign Chemicals for all kinds of timber treatment and they've done well and not unpleasant to apply.
hope the link works, if not, the trade name is SOVAQ about £50 for a 1l concentrate that will make 25litres.

Thanks, I looked and that is another of the insecticide/Permethrin based products.
Just being cautious as I want to diy it, and the deal is my wife is helping as I need to pull back loads of insulation to treat the joists so we will be exposed to it all day.
You can use a solution of Borax powder to treat for woodworm, and it’s really cheap. It’s a bit tricky to get hold of, but a decent old school ironmongers will probably have some. Basic safety precautions like gloves, goggles and mask are advised.
