Looking for a cordless, combi drill of decent quality for about £100.

For all the general stuff about the house, garden and garage.

Probably only require one battery.

Have bought el cheapo own brand B&Q/Homebase stuff in the past only to have it die after a year or two of minimal graft. I've got quite a few projects up and coming during the summer and I'm not going down the screwdriver route any longer I need some power!

Combi drill AND impact driver. It'll change your life...

For your budget i would check out the Erbauer stuff in Screwfix.

I've used a fair bit of their stuff. Some good, some not so good (I returned their router for instance as it was sloppy as hell) but the combi drill gets good reviews, and being Screwfix, you can return it no problem if you get any troubles.

The newest Erbauer stuff really does look like a jump up in quality in that sort of budget.

I have a ryobi one. Hanmmer drill and screwdriver. Its been fine.
I bought it because I wanted other power tools using the same batteries which I have. However the actual batteries are expensive

We have blue Bosch at work but the chuck is useless, I have Makita LXT at home and they are miles better. The Makita bare tool range is vast as well if you want to expand at a later date.

Happy with my Worx but have to confess the main ‘driver’ for my choice of brand was batteries that were compatible with a Hydroshot and leaf blower/bike dryer

+1 for Makita. You should just about get an 18v LXT model in budget. As mentioned, you can then buy a huge range of bare tools to use the same battery. Reckon I have 10 or so LXT tools now. Great quality and decent prices. Fast charge too.

if you’re happy with one battery (and working with one battery is fine with li-ion) then a thing to check when comparing deals is charge time. Sometimes a cheap, slow charger will be slipped in to hit a price point. (Even though the fast one only costs about £3 more)

Another +1 for Makita LXT. Not technically a DIYer but I use it when I'm being a plumber/heating engineer. Perfect combination of price, weight and durability and the range of tools available is pretty extensive.

I have a big range of Makita LXT for work and it's decent stuff. People will probably say Milwaukee is better, but doubt there's much in it.

Go for brushless if you can afford it. The batteries are the expensive part of any set up though. +1 get an impact driver too.

I've just upgraded my site radio now Makita have finally pulled their finger out and made one that's DAB (+) AND Bluetooth - it was either or before. Works off the same battery

If it's just for DIY use I'd just buy whatever is on offer in Screwfix / Homebase / B&Q. You should get a body, two batteries and charger for under £100.

They'll all be more than adequate for general DIY use, it's not like you're worried about getting the absolute max number of holes drilled from each charge etc...

If you were however, loads of shoot out videos on Youtube...

If available to click and collect near you. Over budget mind.

I'm a total Makita Fanboi so all the above are correct. However, I don't think you'd get an 18v lxt, charger and one battery for £100, hence why I suggested Erbauer.

Might be worth upping the budget.

HALLELUJAH!!
Can't believe us Makita users can now have DAB and Bluetooth.
Slightly used DAB radio hitting ebay soon.
I hate these threads because they always cost me money.

I’ve got a Dewalt with 2 18v batteries, XR I think. It’s excellent, as are probably any of the ones mentioned.

It’s got 3Ah batteries which is probably the sweet spot between weight / capacity. My previous Bosch had 5Ah I think and it was so much heavier to use it was a pain, this is much more manageable.

However, I don’t think you’d get an 18v lxt, charger and one battery for £100,

There's usually a deal somewhere, eg £95 here. Older model but I'd take it over a DIY brand

Or, as you say, up the budget a little for a better model

I'd say something like Ryobi. Quality is reasonable, and i have seen it in a number of pro shops where you sometimes need 3 or 4 drills on the go to save swopping bits about, dedicated to a certain job. They get heavily used and seem to last pretty well, so for home use they would be more than adequate.
Plus ryobi do a gigantic range or bare tools ideal for home and garden. From hedgecutters to lawnmowers to trimmers to all other manner, drill, sand, plane router - all one system so the batteries fit them all.

I still haven't broken my green bosche I would put myself in the enthusiastic DIY Builder rather than the odd DIY rawl plugger.

I definitely need two batteries but for the odd bit I guess 1 would be fine, although if you don't charge it every time you might find it pretty frustrating.

I had that one, replaced it with a Blue Bosch and gave it to my brother; but still going strong though.

That's a good price, and Bosch Blue stuff is usually good, but I think a 2 hour charger would annoy me too much. Makita fast charger is 20-40 mins depending on capacity.

^^^ Yeah, probably why it is priced as such as I assume it's an older model. I doubt the charge time would bother most DIYers though

Just picked up the new toy from local screwfix, went for the Kayak23 suggestion Erbauer for £80, two batteries and tidy little carry case not another plastic box that wont shut properly after two weeks of getting bounced around the garage.

Had a quick play with it in the garden already and I am happy, nice and light in the hand, well balanced. Happy days.

I melted the casing on the green Bosch linked above.

But bear in mind I was doing a whole house refit at the time.

The hammer action was absolutely woeful.

Replaced it with a Bosch blue similar to above but with 2*1.5ah batteries and a fast charger.

The hammer actions night and day. Makes short work on concrete lintels that foxed the green one.

As above given Screwfix warranty and erbaure been pretty good. It's a no brainer

I bought this from Screwfix...

Dewalt

It does everything I want it to, and I use it a lot! Mind you, just after I bought that I also bought a Lidl combi drill (as a screwdriver). It was a 20v one and not the little weak 12v, that also does everything I want as well, I think that it's got a metal gearbox. The upside is that I've now bought some extra batteries and an angle grinder in the same Lidl range and that's good as well.
