Been offered the chance to go on a diversity training course, me being the most tolerant person in wales, and not politicaly correct.I try to treat everyone as equal even those above me.
What to expect, waste of time or tea and nosh.
you might find that many people are not as enlightened and brilliant as you
you might find some interesting discussions about the way practice and procedure unintentionally limit diversity
you might think of diversity in a different way to before ie not just racial or gender diversity but also age, class, family status
you might be too good for it and sit in the back huffing
you might get a duff trainer
I really enjoyed it. But I went on to become the little black kid that does the backflips.
The police one was a load of rubbish. Computer based multiple choice, designed for no other purpose than to ensure that having done it you'll have no defence against dismissal if you so much as thought the word "lesbian".
No knowledge on real diversity issues: ie how a male officer should deal with a Muslim woman; what might cause offence if you had to enter a place of worship - that sort of stuff.
Only a complete moron [ rather than a bigot] would fail
Fingers crossed for you 😉
Duff trainer, ah yes.
We were told we that we couldn't call the Irish guy (Patrick) on our shift paddy, he told the trainer that he was known as paddy and wanted to be called paddy. But no,it was not seen as correct in case we called any other Irish men paddy. But it was what he wanted! She told him that she would recommend him for a one to one session for him 🙄

this is a good example of how a decent course could be of use: I was only thinking of how the reality of diversity could/should impact internal processes but of course it could/should affect relations with people outside the organisation
