Heading up to Fort William on thursday for a few days (to race) and would like to know if there are any distilleries that could be recommended? I know there are plenty in the highlands but any inparticular that are favoured amongst the STW whiskey drinkers.
Harry
The Ben Nevis distillery is located on the north side of Fort William and do a tour with tasting at the end. Well worth a visit and their single malts and blended are particularly nice
Obam is about 40 miles away, they do a good tour and the drive is great!
The Ben Nevis 10 year old is rather nice.
What race(s) are you doing?
thanks for the suggestions, i'll take a look at the Ben Nevis distillery, just fancying a purchase rather than a taste/tour.
'Thegreatape' - I'm racing the Fort William SDA, always a good one!
Looks good - have fun! (Wondered if it was 10UTB tomorrow but obviously not)
Thanks! i'm only 19 so been having exams, my fitness has declined a lot so hoping it's still bearable! We'll see how it goes haha
Well it's all downhill so I don't see that mattering 🙂

Tour is very good and the whisky is excellent. Plus, sign up for Classic Mats and the tour is free with discount off a bottle
Edit! Oban
Thanks for the advice, Oban may be too far out of the way, heading up via Edinburgh then sterling etc (I'm from the border). I'm taking both bikes (downhill bike and All mountain bike) if anyone can suggest some good routes too.
IIRC Ben Nevis is owned by Suntory and they mainly produce for export to Japan, which is a good sign
If you're heading from Edinburgh, you could go up the A9 and stop off at Dalwhinnie distillery.
Or maybe Edradour, at Pitlochry.
If you want a pleasant touristy twisty drive, then down to Oban is nice. If you want to drive like a psychopath for a bit, then the road from Dalwhinnie to Laggan is good.
..or Glenkinchie, south of Edinburgh
or Blair Atholl, also Pitlochry
