Picked up a desk I ordered over the phone today from a high street retailer (I had seen it on the website, and was told if i wanted to pick it up in store, I would have to order on the phone). It was waiting for me flat packed...

...the legs are solid oak and quite beautifully finished, sadly the desktop looks like it has been made from the cheapest thinnest wood veneer I've ever seen. I've seen shuttering plywood with a less course finish. There are also glue marks on the top etc. etc.

Other people on google have had problems returning stuff to this retailer and offered credit only. What are my legal rights?

30 days to reject the goods for refund as "unsatisfactory quality."

It's not Distance Selling Regs any more, the legislation you need is the Consumer Rights Act.

If you paid by credit card you have additional rights, you can seek a refund via the card provider.
