I have a couple of gas cylinders that are no longer required that are branded with companies that no longer exist, how the blinking flip do I dispose of them?
Take to the tip.
Make them into stools
Turn them into log burners and stick them on Facebook marketplace for £50 each. That's what everyone else does.
Take them to the tip or advertise them for a tenner on FB (or free).
If you're near me I might take one 🙂
Can you not return to a Calor main stockist - or when you say other companies names do you mean other gas suppliers?
Delivery places round here won't deliver unless you have empty one to pick up, at least that was before they ran out of stock.
One is branded HandyGas, the other MSF. I've done a bit of googling and HandyGas seem to have been bought out by Flo-Gas so that one is returnable. The MSF I'm not sure about.
You local civic amenity site (in England) should be able to accept it and the gas collection companies take it from there, orphaned or otherwise.
Check your local council website.
Offer them free on Facebook Marketplace. Most gas supply company’s exchange your empty cylinder when they deliver a full one, or charge a hefty deposit.
I’ve got a “spare” empty butane canister for when I need a new one for my BBQ outdoor cooker, when one isn’t completely empty but won’t last long.
Take them to the tip
Unfortunately ours no longer accept gas cylinders, return to manufacturer I was told.
People sell the things on ebay etc. so I guess advertise for free on local freecycle, gumtree , facebook group.
If you just want gone round here anything metal left out front or in an alley gets hoovered by rag and bone men in hours, if not minutes. I think there are at least 4 teams here and although I don't like to encourage them by leaving stuff out as some of them 'look' too thoroughly for stuff they would happily shoulder a gas cylinder onto their truck.
In my experience, hauling them out into the countryside then dumping them in a pile seems to be the normal practice.
At least, from my memory of at least a dozen industrial sized cylinders dumped on the Ridgeway near Barbury Castle a few years back. I thought it was normal practise.

Handy Gas now Macgas or Flowgas depending if you are in Scotland or England. Handy gas was BP Gas and was sold to pay for some of the Mexican Gulf mess and to get out of retail.
Guy at the farm up from me turns them into Minions characters. Braver man than me welding arms and legs onto anything that was once pressurised, never mind flammable gas canisters.
