Again, wondered if anyone on here can definitively guide who to contact to understand who owns a particular small area of land in Scotland?

Obviously, if there were a way to get this information for free, then fantastic.

Thanks!

Registers of Scotland

https://scotlis.ros.gov.uk/

Input the postcode, find the parcel (if on the Land Register) and then pay for the title to find the owners name

If its still on the Sasine Register, an bit more longwinded

Good luck.

Land ownership in Scotland is hidden under layers of obfuscation involving holding companies, trusts, offshore accounts etc. Andy Wightman tried his damnedest with his Who Owns Scotland activities but that's not been updated in a long time.

Sometimes it's best just to ask the locals.

Land registry ?

But if this is regarding an empty or abandoned property, this is the kind of thing developers are always on the look out for, and the land registry records each search.

So if someone has found an abandoned property and want to try to take it over, just searching for the previous owners might alert others to the fact such property exists.

Thanks.

It is to understand ownership of a piece of land which we suspect is owned by a property company - who have left the area untended for some years now and it's a complete eye-sore.

I sense that £'s will have to be spent to get a proper understanding...and then whether said company have any obligations to keep and tend for said area.

For those in NE Scotland, sense it is the company associated with the chap who used to be part of ownership of the local football team in Aberdeen...

if it’s a case of abandoned or neglected property causing nuisance then it sounds more like an issue for your local authority to address than for you to play detective yourself

Buying the titles (if on the new RoS Land Register) is only like £3 each. Will give Title Map, Title itself (including Burdens). So not expensive. Give overall info to chase or point others (council) to chase.

I thought from the initial question it was a small parcel you wanted to know the owner as interested in purchasing.
